Murder Mystery 2 Powers: All 10 and What Each One Actually Does

Murder Mystery 2 Powers: All 10 and What Each One Actually Does

Murder Mystery 2 has a Powers tab in the shop, and most players only ever buy the one their friend told them about. The full list has 10 of them, and every single one only works for the Murderer.

This page lists all 10 Powers with their exact price, cooldown and effect, straight from each Power’s own page, not the shop’s short description.

The quick answer

There are 10 Powers in Murder Mystery 2, and every one of them only works while you are the Murderer. Innocents and the Sheriff do not have a Powers system of their own.

Prices run from 1,000 Coins (Sleight and Ninja, tied) up to 6,000 Coins (Ghost and X-Ray, also tied), a 6x spread. Buying all 9 paid Powers costs 29,000 Coins or 3,800 Diamonds total.

One Power is free. Footsteps is handed to every player the moment they first join the game. Nobody has ever had to pay for it.

How Powers work

Powers are bought from the shop with Coins or Diamonds, and once bought they are yours forever. Powers were called Perks until the Season 1 update. The reason for the rename was never explained.

Not one power has ever been permanently removed from the game — only renamed once as a whole category, and adjusted in place. Every Power that has ever existed in Murder Mystery 2 is still in the game today.

All 10 Powers, cheapest first

Sorted by Coin price. Footsteps is free; every other Power costs either 1,000 Coins, 3,000 Coins, or 6,000 Coins, with no price in between.

Power Cost Cooldown Category What it does
Footsteps Free Always on Detection Everyone gets this the moment they first join the game. It leaves a trail behind every Innocent and the Sheriff, in a random color, so the Murderer can follow where they went.
Sleight 1,000 Coins
or 100 Diamonds
Always on Combat Makes your knife throw and come back quicker, with no cooldown or button to press. Great on PC and Xbox, but not very useful on mobile.
Ninja 1,000 Coins
or 100 Diamonds
Always on Stealth Kills make no noise at all, so nobody nearby hears you strike. Tied with Sleight as the cheapest power in the game.
Sprint 3,000 Coins
or 400 Diamonds
27 seconds Speed A short, strong speed burst you can trigger on demand, with a white trail following you while it is active.
Fake Gun 3,000 Coins
or 400 Diamonds
30 seconds Trickery Makes it look like you are the Sheriff. It stops fooling anyone the moment someone actually sees the real Sheriff nearby.
Haste 3,000 Coins
or 400 Diamonds
Always on Speed A small, permanent speed boost that only applies while your knife is drawn, letting you outrun Innocents without needing to trigger anything.
Trap 3,000 Coins
or 400 Diamonds
0.5s between placements Control Lets you box off parts of the map. Only you can see the traps you place, and up to 4 can be down at once.
Decoy 3,000 Coins
or 400 Diamonds
Up to 3 at once Trickery Drops fake copies of your character. If someone shoots one, it just vanishes instead of hurting you. The newest power in the game.
Ghost 6,000 Coins
or 800 Diamonds
30 seconds Stealth Full invisibility, but it cancels the instant you swing your knife. The cooldown got longer in the Summer 2024 Update, from 20 seconds to 30.
X-Ray 6,000 Coins
or 800 Diamonds
26 seconds Detection Shows dead bodies, the Sheriff, remaining Innocents and the gun through walls. Its own in-game description still says 30 seconds, but the real cooldown is 26.
Murder Mystery 2 Powers history

The 6 Power categories

8 of the 10 Powers pair up into four two-Power families (Detection, Speed, Stealth, Trickery). Only two categories have just one Power each: Combat and Control.

Detection (2)

Footsteps and X-Ray. These reveal where other players are, either as footprints or straight through walls.

Speed (2)

Sprint and Haste. One is a short burst you trigger, the other is a small boost that runs the whole time your knife is out.

Stealth (2)

Ninja and Ghost. One silences your kills forever, the other makes you fully invisible for a few seconds at a time.

Trickery (2)

Fake Gun and Decoy. Both exist to make other players believe something that is not true.

Combat (1) and Control (1)

Sleight speeds up your knife itself, and Trap lets you box off part of the map. Neither shares its category with any other Power.

Diamonds buy less on the pricier Powers

Every Power can be bought with Coins or Diamonds, but the exchange rate is not the same across the whole shop.

Price tier Coins Diamonds Coins per Diamond
Sleight, Ninja 1,000 100 10
Sprint, Fake Gun, Haste, Trap, Decoy 3,000 400 7.5
Ghost, X-Ray 6,000 800 7.5

A Diamond spent on Sleight or Ninja is worth 10 Coins. Spend that same Diamond on any pricier Power instead and it is only worth 7.5 Coins, 25% less. The two cheapest Powers are the best deal for saved-up Diamonds, even though they look like the least exciting option.

The Power roster has grown 3 times since launch

7 of the 10 Powers have been in the game since close to the start. Only 3 are later additions, and they did not arrive evenly.

Power Added
Sprint May 2020 Update
Trap May 2020 Update
Decoy Thanksgiving Event 2025

Sprint and Trap arrived together in the May 2020 Update. After that, nothing new was added for over 5 years, until Decoy showed up in the Thanksgiving 2025 event. Not one power has ever been permanently removed from the game — only renamed once as a whole category, and adjusted in place.

What actually changed, with exact numbers

The wiki’s Trivia sections mention several buffs and nerfs, but most give no number at all. These 4 do.

Power Old value New value When
Footsteps 20s duration, no direction shown 40s duration, shows direction March 2020 Update
Haste 30% speed boost 10% speed boost Halloween 2019 + a further cut around the May 2020 Update
Ghost 20 second cooldown 30 second cooldown Summer 2024 Update
X-Ray 30 second cooldown 26 second cooldown undated, still shown as 30s in its own in-game description

We found and fixed a stale number. The Powers hub table on the wiki still lists Ghost’s cooldown as 20 seconds. Ghost’s own page says it was changed to 30 seconds in the Summer 2024 Update, and that is the number we used here.

Haste took the biggest hit: its speed boost was cut from 30% at launch down to today’s 10%, across two separate nerfs. X-Ray went the other way, its cooldown dropping from 30 seconds to 26, though the Power’s own in-game description still says 30.

What the full list actually tells you

Cooldown type splits the roster into 3 equal-ish groups

4 Powers need no button at all: Footsteps, Sleight, Ninja and Haste. 4 are true cooldown-gated abilities you trigger on demand: Sprint, Fake Gun, Ghost and X-Ray. The other 2, Trap and Decoy, are limited by COUNT instead of a timer, capping at 4 and 3.

Price only has 3 steps

Free, 1,000 Coins, 3,000 Coins, or 6,000 Coins. There is no in-between price anywhere in the Powers shop.

This is a Murderer-only system

Every single description says “as the Murderer.” The Sheriff and Innocent roles have their own tips and tools, but no Powers of their own.
