Trusted Connections on Roblox
“What they are, what they unlock, and how to add one safely.”
Last Checked: June 2026
If you play Roblox, you may have seen the words “Trusted Connections” pop up and wondered what they mean.
A Trusted Connection is a special kind of friend. It is someone you know and trust in real life, who you have added so the two of you can chat more freely.
There is one thing to clear up first. In 2026 Roblox renamed “Connections” back to “Friends”, so Trusted Connections are now officially called Trusted Friends. They are the very same thing.
Roblox built this feature for safety. You can only add a Trusted Friend by meeting in person and scanning each other’s code, which makes it hard for a stranger to sneak in.
Well, here is exactly what Trusted Connections are, what they unlock, the age check you need, and how to add one safely.
The Quick Answer
Trusted Connections (now called Trusted Friends) are a small group of people you know in real life that you add as special friends, so you can chat more naturally. To add one, both of you must be age-checked and in the 13-and-up age group, then you scan each other’s QR code in person. A parent linked through Family Pairing becomes a Trusted Friend automatically, and younger kids can add close family with a parent’s approval.
How to Add a Trusted Connection on Roblox
1
Make sure you are old enough and age-checked
To add a Trusted Friend yourself, you need to be in the 13-and-up age group and pass Roblox’s quick age check.
– The age check is fast: you take a short selfie video so Roblox can work out your age group, or you can confirm your age with an ID (here is how to get verified)
– Younger kids are not left out: a parent linked through Family Pairing automatically becomes a Trusted Friend
– An under-13 can add close family by sending a request that a parent approves
2
Open your Friends list and find your QR code
Open Roblox and go to the Friends area. Because Roblox renamed Connections back to Friends in 2026, just look for the word “Friends”.
– Tap the add button (the plus sign or “Add Friends”), then choose “My QR” to show your own code
– To scan a friend instead, tap the camera or scan icon so you can point it at their code
3
Meet in person and scan each other’s code
Trusted Friends are added face to face, which is what keeps the feature safe.
– Stand next to your friend and scan the live QR code on their screen with your camera
– It has to be the real code showing right then; a screenshot, photo, or recording of a code will not work
– You can also import contacts from your phone to quickly find people you already know
4
Both of you confirm the Trusted Friend
A Trusted Friend is a two-way link, so both people have to agree to add each other.
– Once you both confirm, and you are both age-checked and 13 or older, you become Trusted Friends
– If one of you has not done the age check yet, you are simply added as normal friends until that is sorted
5
See what Trusted Connections unlock
Becoming Trusted Friends lets you talk more naturally than a regular friend can.
– For teens aged 13 to 17 in the same age range, it unlocks fuller chat: Expressive Chat (messages with fewer filters) and Party Voice for talking out loud
– It works alongside normal private messages, and players aged 18 and up have their own rules for chatting across ages
– Creators also get Team Create, which lets Trusted Friends build a game together live in Roblox Studio
6
Keep it safe and remove anyone you do not trust
Because Trusted Friends can talk to you with fewer limits, only ever add people you truly know in real life.
– You can remove a Trusted Friend at any time, and you should tell a trusted adult if anyone makes you uncomfortable or asks for personal information
– Never share your real name, age, address, school, phone number, or password with anyone online

Trusted Connections FAQ
What are Trusted Connections on Roblox?
Trusted Connections are a small inner circle of people you know and trust in real life that you add as a special kind of friend. They can chat with you more naturally, with fewer filters, than a regular friend can. Roblox renamed them Trusted Friends in 2026, but they work exactly the same way.
Are Trusted Connections the same as Trusted Friends?
Yes. In 2026 Roblox renamed “Connections” back to “Friends”, so Trusted Connections are now officially called Trusted Friends. It is only a name change, so the feature, the age check, and the way you add them all stay the same.
How do you add a Trusted Connection on Roblox?
Both people need to be age-checked and in the 13-and-up age group. Then you meet in person and scan each other’s live QR code, or import contacts, and you both confirm. A screenshot of a code will not work, and a parent linked through Family Pairing becomes a Trusted Friend automatically.
How old do you have to be for Trusted Connections?
To add a Trusted Friend yourself, you must be in the 13-and-up age group and pass the age check. Younger children are not shut out: a linked parent automatically becomes their Trusted Friend, and an under-13 can add close family by sending a request that a parent approves.
What do Trusted Connections unlock?
For teens aged 13 to 17 in the same age range, Trusted Friends unlock Expressive Chat (messages with fewer filters) and Party Voice (talking by voice). Adults have their own rules, and creators can use Team Create to build together in Roblox Studio. It ties into the 2026 rules that match who you chat with to your age.
Why won’t my Trusted Connection work?
The most common reasons are that one of you has not passed the age check, one of you is under 13 (so you need a parent’s approval for family), you tried to scan a screenshot instead of a live code, or only one person confirmed. Fix those and try again. For more on safe settings, see our guide on whether Roblox is safe for kids.
The bottom line
Trusted Connections, now called Trusted Friends, are a safety feature, not a way to meet strangers. You add them in person with people you already know, after a quick age check, and they simply let you chat more naturally. For the latest official rules, see Roblox’s own Help Center.
