Voice Chat on Roblox

Voice chat lets you talk to other players in Roblox using your real voice instead of typing. Roblox calls the feature Spatial Voice, and it makes social games, role-plays, and team-based experiences feel a lot more alive.
The catch is that voice chat is switched off by default, and you will not even see the toggle until your account meets a few requirements. This is on purpose, since Roblox keeps voice features locked down to protect younger players.
As of January 2026, Roblox asks you to confirm your age before it unlocks any communication feature, voice chat included. That one extra step is the part most people get stuck on.
The good news is that once your age is verified, turning voice chat on takes less than a minute, and the steps are almost identical on PC, mobile, and Xbox.
Well, before you open Settings and start hunting for the switch, run through the short requirements list below. If you are missing one of these, the voice chat toggle simply will not appear.
Before You Start: What You Need
Requirements:
- You must be 13 or older – Roblox does not offer voice chat to accounts under 13, and there is no safe workaround for this.
- A verified age – Since January 2026 you have to confirm your age before any chat feature unlocks, using a quick selfie video or a government ID.
- Microphone access – Your phone, computer, or console has to allow Roblox to use the mic, otherwise the toggle does nothing.
- A supported region and game – Voice chat is not live in every country, and each experience decides on its own whether to switch it on.
How to Turn On Voice Chat

Update Roblox and check your age
Start by making sure you are running the latest version of Roblox, since older builds hide the newer voice settings. Update the app from your store, or reinstall it if you are on PC.
Your account also needs to be set to age 13 or older. If your birthday is wrong on the account and you are old enough, an adult can correct it in the account settings first.

Verify your age
This is the step that actually unlocks voice chat. Open Settings, look for the age check prompt (often labelled “Verify My Age”), and choose how you want to confirm your age.
– Pick the selfie option to scan your face with your phone camera, or the ID option to upload a government ID
– Scan the on-screen QR code with your phone if you started on a computer
– Follow the prompts from the verification partner, then wait a few minutes for the green confirmation

Open Settings and go to Privacy
Once your age is confirmed, click the gear icon in the top-right corner of Roblox and choose Settings. Then open the Privacy tab on the left.
This is the same menu shown in the screenshot above, where all of your chat and contact options live.

Switch on the voice chat toggle
Scroll down to the Voice Chat section and flip the toggle labelled “Use Microphone to talk in experiences that support voice.” When it turns green, voice chat is enabled on your account.
Roblox may show you a short reminder about safe communication. Accept it, and you are good to go.

Allow microphone access on your device
Even with the toggle on, your device still has to grant Roblox permission to use the mic.
– On Windows, open Settings then Privacy and security then Microphone and allow Roblox
– On iPhone or Android, open your phone Settings, find Roblox, and turn on the Microphone permission
– On Xbox, allow microphone and communication permissions for the Roblox app

Join a supported game and test it
Hop into an experience that supports voice, such as a popular social or role-play game. You should see a small microphone icon floating above your avatar once you are connected.
Tap or click that icon to mute and unmute yourself. If your friends can hear you, voice chat is working perfectly. If something is still off, the answers below cover the most common hiccups.
Voice Chat FAQ
Can you get voice chat on Roblox without an ID?
Yes. You can verify your age with a quick video selfie instead of uploading a government ID. Roblox uses facial age estimation through a verification partner, so a lot of players never have to share an ID at all.
Why is voice chat not showing up in my settings?
The toggle only appears after your age is verified and when your region and device actually support voice. If you have verified and still do not see it, update the app and double-check that your account is set to 13 or older.
Can players under 13 use voice chat?
No. Roblox does not allow voice chat on accounts registered as under 13, and no setting or trick changes that. The feature unlocks once the account holder is old enough and has passed the age check.
Is Roblox voice chat free?
Yes, voice chat is completely free. You do not need Premium or Robux to use it, only a verified age and a working microphone.
Does every Roblox game have voice chat?
No. Each developer chooses whether to turn voice on in their experience, so some games support it and others do not. Look for the microphone icon above avatars to tell at a glance whether a game uses voice.
How do I turn voice chat off again?
Go back to Settings then Privacy, find the Voice Chat section, and switch the toggle off. You can turn it on and off as often as you like without verifying your age again.
Still cannot find the toggle?
