Speed is the whole game in Steal An Egg. It decides which zones you can reach and whether you get home with the egg. So the upgrades you buy matter more than which egg you go for.
This page covers all 39 upgrades in the game: 10 treadmills, 10 trails, 7 pet mutations and 12 Robux speed boosts. Each one comes with what it really costs and what it actually gives you.

The thing most players miss. Your trail does not give Speed on its own. It multiplies what your treadmill gives you while you are running on it. So the two upgrades stack: the Angelic Treadmill at +2,000 with the Divine Trail at x14 gives you 28,000 Speed every step, not 2,000.
How your two Speed upgrades stack
Multiply the treadmill number by the trail number and you get your Speed per step. Here is what a few pairings come out at.

This is why a cheap trail next to a good treadmill is usually the better buy. A trail upgrade lifts every step you take from then on.

Check this one before you save for it. The Freeze Treadmill is the only upgrade in the game that steps up by less than the one below it. The Golden Treadmill jumps you +50 Speed for $115 million. The Freeze Treadmill then jumps you only +20 more, and asks $2.9 billion for it. That is about 25 times the money for under half the gain.
It is still a step forward, so it is not a trap you must avoid. But if you are close to affording the one above it, that is the better place to put your money.

Look at the last column. The Grey Trail costs $200 for each extra 1x it gives you. The Divine Trail costs $23.1 trillion for the same thing. Every single rung is worse value than the one below it, with no exceptions.
What that means for you. The cheap trails are the best deal in the game. Buy each one as soon as you can afford it and do not skip any, because the early ones pay for themselves almost at once.
All 7 pet mutations
Mutations are a different system. They do not touch your Speed at all. They multiply how much money a pet makes, and your pet rolls one when it hatches.

Most hatches give you nothing here. Only 11 rolls in every 100 give a color mutation at all, so about 89 in 100 pets come out plain. And only 3 of the 7 mutations can be rolled by hatching. The other 4 come from events or a consumable.
The best one is Rainbow at x3.5, and a normal hatch really can give it to you. The catch is that it is the rarest roll in the game at 1 in every 100.
The next two down are the ones to stop chasing. Parasite at x3 and Fractured at x2.75 cannot be rolled by hatching at all, so no amount of opening eggs will get you either one.
Size is rolled separately from color, so a pet can be big with no color at all. The two multiply together. The game’s own worked example is a Golden pet that is also Giant: x2.5 for the color and x3 for the size comes out at x7.5 in total.
The Robux speed boosts
There are 12 speed boosts sold for Robux. You never need them, and everything above is reachable without spending anything. We checked every price against the game itself rather than copying a list.

If someone in your family is thinking about buying one. This ladder works backwards from the cash one. The small boosts are the worst value on it: the x8 works out at 3.00 Robux for each extra 1x, while the x4,000 is 0.34. That makes the small ones about 8.7 times more expensive for what they give. Always ask first, and remember a boost runs out while a treadmill does not.
What to buy first
- Get the free Treadmill (base) going and start running.
- Buy the Grey Trail at $100. It is the cheapest upgrade in the game and it lifts every step you take.
- Then climb both ladders together rather than rushing one. A trail is usually much cheaper than the next treadmill and it multiplies what you already have.
- Take mutations as they come. You cannot aim for them, and 89 hatches in 100 give none.
