A Rift opens somewhere on the map every 30 minutes in Steal An Egg. Step inside, beat the Overlord waiting there, and you walk out with Boss Tokens and a shot at rewards no nest egg gives you. A second Rift, separate from the timed ones, sits in your lobby all the time and wants your pets instead of your fists.
Our Steal An Egg eggs guide already covers what the 4 Rift eggs pay out. This page covers the event around them: the boss fight, the Boss Shop, Boss Mastery, and exactly which pets each banner wants from you.
The thing most players get wrong. You cannot hurt the Overlord while its shield crystals are still up. Break every crystal first. Only after that does it open up and take real damage.
The Overlord fight has 2 phases

Phase 1. The Overlord is shielded by a ring of crystals when the fight starts. It cannot take damage at all until every crystal is destroyed, so go after those first no matter how tempting the boss itself looks.
Phase 2. Once the crystals are gone, the Overlord opens up. Its arm becomes vulnerable for a short window each time, and that is your chance to hit it for real damage before it closes up again.
Multiple players can jump into the same Rift, so teaming up with whoever else is on your server makes both phases faster.
What beating the Overlord pays
A win hands you between 1,200 and 1,500 Boss Tokens. Spend them in the Boss Shop, or bank them toward Boss Mastery instead of cashing out the moment you get them.
| Item |
Cost |
What it does |
| 2x Cash Booster |
175 Boss Tokens |
doubles the money you earn for 10 minutes |
| 2x Treadmill Booster |
200 Boss Tokens |
doubles your treadmill’s Speed for 10 minutes |
| 1.25x Speed |
225 Boss Tokens |
a flat Speed boost that lasts 5 minutes |
| Mutation Shard |
400 Boss Tokens |
10% chance to put the Fractured mutation on an egg in your pen |
Where to put your first tokens. The Mutation Shard is the priciest item at 400 Boss Tokens, and it only has a 10% chance to work each time you use it on an egg sitting in your pen. The three boosts are cheaper and always work, so most players are better off buying a few of those before saving for a shard.
Boss Mastery: a second reward track
Every Overlord you beat also counts toward Boss Mastery, a separate track from your token balance. It hands out eggs as you climb, and the ones near the top already carry the Fractured mutation before you even hatch them.
Reach mastery level 5 and you get a permanent +50% boost to every Boss Token payout after that, for the rest of the time you play. Egg rewards also land at levels 3, 10, 15, 20, with better versions the higher you climb.
The Rift Sacrifice: 3 pets for 1 exclusive egg
The permanent Rift in your lobby does not want a fight. It asks for 3 pets and hands back 1 Rift egg, the only way to get that egg outside of Boss Mastery. What it asks for depends on which of 3 banners is currently active.

The banner rotates every 3 hours, and the change happens at the same moment on every server. Whichever banner is live decides both what you must give up and which egg you can win.
Riftborn
Sacrifice pets are pulled from Jungle, Snow, Volcano, Abyss Ocean, split into three difficulty tiers. The harder the pet, the harder it is to have three ready when this banner comes around.

- Medium: Toucan, Crocodile, Gorilla, Orangutini Ananassini, Walrus, Polar Bear, Sabertooth Tiger, Mammoth, Flaming Bull, Lava Iguana, Chillin Chilli, Shark, Orca

Riftbeasts
Sacrifice pets are pulled from Volcano, Abyss Ocean, Prehistoric, Cosmic, split into three difficulty tiers. The harder the pet, the harder it is to have three ready when this banner comes around.

The patch notes never caught up. When the Rift Boss Event launched, the developer’s own update log called each banner’s reward pool “5 rare animals.” Riftbeasts and Shattered Rift still hold exactly 5 each. Riftborn does not — its pool now has 6, and nothing in the game’s own notes mentions the change.
Does pity reset when the banner rotates?
No. Pity carries over whether you leave the game or the banner changes underneath you. Nothing you do resets your progress toward it, so there is no reason to rush a Rift Sacrifice before a rotation out of fear of losing your count.
Questions players ask
How often does a Rift open? Every 30 minutes somewhere on the map. The Rift in your lobby that takes pets instead of a fight is up all the time.
How many Boss Tokens do you get per fight? Between 1,200 and 1,500.
Can I damage the Overlord right away? No. Its shield crystals block all damage until every one is destroyed.
Do all 3 banners want the same pets? No. Each banner draws its sacrifice pets from its own set of biomes, so what you need to save up changes every 3 hours.
Is the Mutation Shard worth it? It costs 400 Boss Tokens and only works 10% of the time. It is not a bad buy, but it is the least reliable item in the shop for the price.
What is the best pet from the Rift? That depends on the eggs guide’s per-second numbers, but a Rift Sacrifice can pay out World Eater, Void Serpent or Shattered Colossus depending on the active banner. Our Steal An Egg eggs guide ranks all of them by pay.
