Doors has 80 modifiers. They make a run harder or easier, and they change how many Knobs you get paid at the end.
Most players switch on everything they can and hope for the best. That is the wrong move, because the game stops counting long before you run out of modifiers to turn on.
This page has every modifier with its exact bonus, plus the smallest set that gets you each badge.
The quick answer
Of the 80 modifiers, 70 raise your Knob bonus and 9 lower it.
Wondering how rare these badges actually are? Only 71,928 players have A Hard Place, about 1 in 7,208. Our Doors achievements guide has real player counts for all 111 of them.
The cap nobody mentions. Add every single boost together and you get +780%. The game only ever pays you up to +150%. That is 5.2 times more than you can bank, so past the cap you are making the run harder for nothing.
And +150% is exactly what the hardest badges ask for, so the ceiling and the goal are the same number.
How the Knob bonus works
Every modifier you switch on adds or takes away a set percentage. The total is your bonus for that run. Three rules decide what that total can be.
| Rule |
What it means |
| The bonus stops at +150% |
Turn on more boosts after that and they pay nothing. |
| The penalty stops at -90% |
The game will not take away more than that, so you never end up with less than nothing. |
| No single modifier gives more than +25% |
Random modifiers are the one exception and can reach +50%. |
That last rule is why the list feels slow. The roster is bottom heavy, so most of your bonus comes from stacking a lot of small ones.

The four badges and what they need
Every popular modifier question is really a badge question, and each badge is just a number you have to reach before you finish the floor.
| Badge |
Floor |
Bonus you need |
| Not Five Stars |
The Hotel |
+50% or more |
| Rocky Road |
The Mines |
+50% or more |
| Hotel Hell |
The Hotel |
+150% or more |
| A Hard Place |
The Mines |
+150% or more |
You can get two at once. Finish a floor at +150% and you earn both of that floor’s badges together. That only works if you did not already have the easy one.
Why you cannot just pick the biggest ones
Modifiers come in groups where only one can be on at a time. 17 of these groups cover 52 of the 80 modifiers, so most of the list is a pick one situation.
This bites straight away. The two biggest boosts in the game cannot be used together, so the obvious plan of stacking the top few does not work.
The largest group has 6 modifiers in it, and you may only ever have one of them switched on.
| Only one of these at a time |

This is why the totals below are smaller than adding up the biggest numbers would suggest.
The fastest way to each badge
There is a second catch. 38 of the 70 boosts are locked behind badges you have to earn first. A brand new player can only reach 32 of them.
Put the locks and the groups together and a new player’s highest possible bonus is +205%. That clears the +150% badge, but not by much.
Reaching +50% (Not Five Stars and Rocky Road)
Starting from nothing, 3 modifiers is enough. These are all open to a new player.

Why it went |
| PARTY MODE |

| Lights On |

| El Goblino On Break |
Didn’t affect anything enough to be a thing (Could return if future updates). |
| A Few Places To Hide |
Overriden to make room for the new version of Nowhere To Hide |
| Again & Again & Again |
Permanently removed because LSPLASH was unable to fix ‘Again & Again & Again’, and the modifier kept breaking after every major update. |
| You Really Can Run |
Made the game easier since a longer Seek chase would mean more rooms skipped |
| It Can Run Too |
Seek’s movement speed was reworked in The Mines Update to be dynamic instead of a fixed number, breaking the modifier and causing it to do nothing. |
| Roundabout |
Halt’s movement was reworked in The Mines Update to directly follow the player, which would have caused the modifier to work incorrectly. |
There are also 2 modifiers listed as coming later and 2 that were dropped before release. None of those are in the 80 above.
Doors modifiers FAQ
How many modifiers are in Doors?
80. The game wiki states the same number, and we counted the live list to check.
What is the highest Knob bonus you can get?
+150%. Adding more boosts after that does nothing, even though all the boosts together come to +780%.
What are the best modifiers for Hotel Hell?
Any set that reaches +150%. With the badges you already have that can be as few as 6 modifiers, and from a fresh start it takes 12.
What are the best modifiers for Not Five Stars?
You need +50%. 3 modifiers do it from a fresh start: How Unfortunate, Power Shortage, Out Of Stuff.
Why can I not see some modifiers?
38 of them are locked behind a badge. They only appear once you have earned the badge listed next to them.
Can I lose Knobs from modifiers?
You cannot go below zero. The penalty stops at -90%, and two modifiers switch rewards off entirely instead.
Can I turn on every modifier at once?
No. 17 groups of modifiers let you pick only one at a time, and those groups cover 52 of the 80. The two biggest boosts are in the same group.
Is there a modifier that does nothing for Knobs?
Yes, one. Bad Ventilation changes the run but gives no bonus either way.
What is the biggest single modifier?
Chaos, Chaos at +50%. Apart from random modifiers, nothing gives more than +25%.
