How to Play Doors
Every run takes you deeper into the hotel, one door at a time. Here is the basic flow:
1. Open the doors. You start in the Hotel and open numbered doors to move forward. The goal is to reach Door 100 and escape.
2. Search the rooms. Look in drawers, wardrobes, and chests for Gold, keys, and items, but watch out for small surprises like Timothy.
3. Watch for entities. When the lights flicker or you hear a strange sound, hide in a closet or use the right move. Our Doors entities guide covers every one.
4. Spend your Gold. Visit Jeff’s Shop to buy items like the Crucifix, Vitamins, and Lockpicks that help you survive.
5. Reach the exit. Make it through all the doors and past the final boss to escape the hotel and win the run.
Gameplay and Strategy
Doors is all about moving forward carefully. Every door could hide a monster, a puzzle, or a quiet room with loot, so it pays to listen and look before you rush ahead. Closets and beds are dotted around so you can duck in and hide when something dangerous comes by.
The entities are the heart of the game, and each one needs a different response. Some you hide from, some you look away from, and some you simply walk past slowly. You can learn them all in our Doors entities guide. Partway through you also meet El Goblino and Bob, plus Jeff’s Shop where you spend Gold on helpful gear.
You earn Knobs, the in-game money, as you play, and you spend them on revives and cosmetics. Playing with friends helps a lot, since you can share the job of watching for threats and revive each other when things go wrong.
Tips for New Players
- Hide in a closet or under a bed the moment the lights flicker, then wait until the hallway goes quiet before you come out.
- Learn each entity’s warning sign. Our entities guide breaks down every monster and how to beat it.
- Save your Gold for the Crucifix and Vitamins at Jeff’s Shop, since the Crucifix can banish most entities.
- Do not hide too long, or the Hide entity will force you out and hurt you.
- Play with friends if you can. Co-op makes the scary parts way easier, and only chat with people you actually know.
