How to Win in Dress to Impress
“How do I get the most stars, rank up, and can I get VIP for free?”
Dress to Impress is a dress-up game where everyone gets the same theme, builds an outfit, and walks a runway. Then the players rate each other. The best outfit wins the round.
Winning is not just luck. There is a clear way the stars are counted, and a few simple habits help you score higher every time. This guide breaks down how the voting works, how to climb the ranks, how VIP really works, and how to earn free Cash for more outfits.

How a round works in Dress to Impress, plus the simple win formula.
The Quick Answer
You win a round by getting the most total stars from other players. Here is the short version:
- Match the theme first. Voters look for the theme before anything else.
- Keep it clean. Pick two or three colors so your look feels like one idea.
- Add flair. A bold statement piece, a fun walk, and a strong pose all help.
Every round also gives you Cash and stars, so you climb ranks just by playing. You never need Robux to win.
How a Round Works
Each round follows the same simple loop. Once you know it, the whole game makes sense.
- You get a theme. The game picks a random theme, like Fairy Tale or Y2K, at the end of the lobby break.
- You dress up. You get around six minutes in the Dressing Room to build your outfit. You can wear up to 18 items at once, or 24 with the Increased Item Limit gamepass.
- You walk the runway. Everyone walks one at a time to show off their look. You can add a walk and a pose for style.
- Everyone votes. Players rate each look from 1 to 5 stars.
- The winners show. The top three players stand on the podium, then the leaderboard shows everyone the stars and Cash they earned.
Then the lobby break starts again with a new theme, and the loop repeats.
How Winning Actually Works
This is the part most players miss. Your score for a round is the total number of stars other people give you. Every player can rate you from 1 to 5 stars, so more happy voters means a higher score.
When voting ends, the game adds up everyone’s stars. The three highest scores go on the podium in first, second, and third place. Those top spots earn the most Stars and Cash for your account.
Two small things are good to know. Players walk the runway in the order they joined the server, so early joiners walk first. And you can use Runway Effects during voting to react to a look or highlight your own. None of that changes the star math, but it makes the runway more fun.
Tips to Get More Stars
Winning comes down to giving voters a look they instantly understand and enjoy. These tips work in almost every round:
- Read the theme carefully. If the theme is a word like “Mermaid,” start with the most obvious mermaid piece, then build around it.
- Stick to a color story. Two or three colors that match look far better than a rainbow of clashing pieces.
- Use one statement piece. A single bold hat, bag, or pair of wings sells the whole outfit. Too many loud pieces cancel each other out.
- Do not forget the details. Hair, makeup, shoes, and nails all count. A finished head-to-toe look beats a great top with plain shoes.
- Pick a matching walk and pose. A graceful walk suits an elegant look, and a fun pose suits a silly theme.
- Play with a friend. When you both join, you can give each other high stars, which is a nice boost on a slow server.

All 14 Dress to Impress Ranks
Every star you earn adds to your lifetime total, and that total sets your Rank. Your rank shows on a tag above your head. Higher ranks also unlock special items and special servers. There are 14 standard ranks:
| Rank |

| New Model |
0 to 50 |
| Rising Star |

The Five Servers and Star Gates
Dress to Impress has five kinds of servers. Two are open to everyone, two need a certain star total, and one needs the VIP Pass. Higher servers tend to have more serious players and tougher voting.

How to Win Style Showdown
Style Showdown is a special elimination mode, a bit like a fashion contest show. Instead of everyone earning stars, players are voted off one by one until a winner is left.
Here is how a game goes. You join the queue ring in the Style Showdown lobby, and once enough players are ready, the match begins. Each round you get a theme and about three minutes to dress. Then you vote for your favorite looks. The number of players you can vote for changes with the crowd size, and any votes you do not use are wasted, so always use them all.
After each vote, the player with the fewest votes is eliminated. This repeats until only three players remain for the grand finale. The player with the most Style Stars wins a random piece from the Style Showdown Set. Win three rounds to collect the full set. Here is what each finale spot earns:
| Finale place |

Updated July 2026. Style Showdown got a big rework on July 4, 2026, with over 100 new items in rotation, fresh challenge rounds, and its own Style Star ranks that are separate from the main game ranks.
How to Get VIP (and the Truth About “Free VIP”)
VIP is the game’s main gamepass. It unlocks the VIP Room full of VIP-only items, a special VIP server, and a VIP tag by your name. You can also gift VIP to a friend or be gifted it.
The VIP Pass costs 799 Robux for permanent access. There is also a cheaper monthly option, around 399 Robux a month, if you only want it for a while. Prices can change with updates, so check the in-game shop for the current number.
About “free VIP”: a lot of videos promise a free VIP button or a secret code, but there is no real free-VIP trick. VIP is a gamepass, and codes only give items, not gamepasses. The only free ways to get it are being gifted the pass by another player, or winning it in an official giveaway from the game’s social pages. Be careful, since “free VIP” links are usually scams.
The good news is that VIP is only for extra looks. It does not give you more stars or make you win. You can rank all the way up and win rounds without ever buying it.
How to Get Free Outfits and Cash
You do not need to spend Robux to look great. The Standard Dressing Room is packed with free items that every player can use, and you can earn Cash to unlock even more.
Cash, also called Money, is the free currency you spend on extra items, pose packs, and walk packs. Here are the best ways to earn it:
Every main way to earn free Cash for more outfits in Dress to Impress.
- Finish rounds. Each normal round pays out 0 to 60 Cash based on how you did.
- Grab cash on the map. Pink Cash is common and gives 1 to 3, while rare Gold Cash gives 15 to 25. The 2X Money gamepass doubles these.
- Play Style Showdown. You earn a little each round, and first place in the finale gives 200 Cash.
- Climb the Baddie Pass. This free seasonal pass hands out Cash, stars, items, and pose packs as you complete daily tasks and play rounds.
- Play seasonal minigames. Event games, like Apple Bobbing during Halloween, can pay 100 to 350 Cash at a time.
- Redeem codes and quests. Our codes page lists free items, and in-game quests give free items too.
If you ever want a shortcut, you can also buy Cash packs with Robux, from 500 Cash for 100 Robux up to 40,500 Cash for 4,500 Robux. But most players never need to, since free Cash adds up fast just by playing.
Other Gamepasses (Are They Worth It?)
Besides VIP, Dress to Impress has a few other gamepasses. None of them help you win, but some make dressing up easier or more fun. Here is the full list:
| Gamepass |
Price |
What it does |
| VIP Pass |
799 Robux |
VIP room, VIP-only items, and a VIP server |
| 2X Money |
399 Robux |
Double the Cash you collect on the map |
| Custom Makeup |
349 Robux |
Make your own custom makeup looks |
| Materials+ |
299 Robux |
Extra material and texture options for items |
| Run Faster |
149 Robux |
Change your walk speed in the Dressing Room |
| Increased Item Limit |
129 Robux |
Wear 24 items at once instead of 18 |
If you had to pick one, the Increased Item Limit pass is the most helpful for winning, since more item slots let you build fancier looks. But it is still a nice-to-have, not a must.
