Anime Expeditions drops you into a tower defence run where your whole team is summoned from a banner. Which units you own decides how far you get, so the roster is the first thing most players want to see.
This page lists every unit in the game, what it costs, how likely you are to pull it, and how hard it hits. The summon rates here are the real ones the game uses, not guesses.
The quick answer
The game holds 54 units. You can summon or earn 37 of them. The other 17 are evolved forms, which means stronger versions you upgrade into later.
A single summon costs 50 gems. A Mythic shows up 0.25% of the time, and the rarest tier, Secret, is 0.01%.
The one tip most players miss. If you want one exact Mythic, summon on the Mini banner, not the Standard one. Both cost the same and both promise a Mythic after 400 tries. But the Mini banner only runs one Mythic at a time, so that promise lands on the unit you actually want.
How many units are in Anime Expeditions
You will see a few different numbers for this, so here is the split. There are 54 units in total.
Of those, 37 are ones you can go and get. The other 17 only appear when you evolve a unit you already own. Both kinds show up in your collection, which is why the bigger number is the one you will see in game.

Some unit lists still say 33. That count was written before the Villain Invasion update added Crow, Razorjaw, Dark Mage and Cursed Immortal, plus the four forms they evolve into. If a list is missing those, it is one update behind.
Every summon rate, and the second roll
The game shows one set of rates on every banner. They add up to exactly 100%, so nothing is hidden.

Why 0.25% is not your real Mythic chance
Here is the part that trips people up. That 0.25% is the chance of getting a Mythic, not the chance of getting the Mythic you are after.
The game rolls twice. First it decides the rarity. Then it picks which unit inside that rarity you get. How good that second roll is depends entirely on the banner you used.

All 37 units you can get
These are sorted by rarity, then by damage. Gold is what it costs to fully upgrade the unit during a run. Limit is how many copies you may place at once.
Damage per second is the unit’s damage divided by its seconds per attack, both taken at max upgrade. It covers the plain attack only, so traits, equipment and passives all add more on top.

Ramen Guy and Stone Alchemist have no damage at all. They are farm units. Instead of attacking they make money during a run, which pays for everyone else’s upgrades. Ramen Guy makes 11,500 a cycle once fully upgraded.
Which banner to use if you want one exact unit

The pity trap on the Standard banner
Both gem banners promise a Mythic after 400 summons. That is 20,000 gems, or 16,000 if you have VIP. The promise sounds the same on both, but it is not.
On the Mini banner there is only one Mythic, so the promise hands you that unit. On the Standard banner it hands you one of three. You get the middle one half the time and each side one a quarter of the time.

What a summon really costs
The game does not print a price per summon anywhere, but every promise in the game gives the same answer.

Every row lands on 50 gems a summon, and every VIP row lands on 40. That makes the VIP discount exactly one fifth off.
The promises are fair
A 0.25% chance means a Mythic takes 400 summons on average. The promise also lands at 400. A 0.01% Secret averages 10,000 summons, and that promise lands at 10,000 too.
So the summon promises sit exactly on the average, which is friendlier than it sounds. It means a run of bad luck gets capped instead of dragging on.
Worth knowing if you have read our traits guide: trait rerolls work differently. There the promise sits at 1.5 times the average wait, not right on it. The same game uses two different rules for two different systems.
The five units no banner will ever give you
Five units sit outside the summon pool completely. No amount of gems will pull them.

Reaper is the best free unit in the game
Reaper stands out for two reasons. It drops from Spirit City Raid Act 2 at 5% a clear, and the game guarantees it by your 20th clear. That means no gems at all.
It is also the only unit in the game that changes rarity when it evolves. Reaper is a Legendary, and Reaper (Released) is a Mythic. Every other evolution keeps the rarity it started with.
Put those together and Reaper is a Mythic you can earn in 20 raid clears instead of 20,000 gems. If you are new and short on gems, it is the strongest thing you can chase.
Toy Maker is the opposite story. It came from the Release Tournament, so if you were not there for that event you cannot get it now. It has the highest damage of any unit you can place, which is why people still ask about it.
Every evolution in the game
Evolving raises a unit’s stats, adds upgrade levels and often gives it a new attack. Every stat also moves up one grade, so it pays to reroll good stats before you evolve rather than after.

Every single evolution raises damage, so none of them is a trap. The biggest gain belongs to Cursed Immortal, which climbs from 230 to 546 a second.
Elf Mage grows the most for its size. It starts as one of the weaker Mythics at 101 and ends on 326, which is more than three times over. Puppet still finishes highest of all at 566.
The strongest units by damage
Raw damage a second is only half the picture in this game. You may place several copies of most units, and that limit changes everything.
So the table below shows both. Field damage is one unit’s damage a second multiplied by how many you are allowed to place.

String Demon comes out on top once the limit is counted, even though Toy Maker hits harder on its own. Toy Maker is capped at one copy, so it cannot keep up with three String Demons.
Rarity does not always mean stronger
Corps Captain is only an Epic, yet it out-damages two of the Legendaries. And Flame Emperor, a Mythic, has the lowest damage a second of any Mythic in the game at 41.9.
That does not make Flame Emperor bad, and it is worth knowing why. It is the only unit in the game you may place five of, and its Burn spreads to three more enemies nearby. It is built to cover crowds, not to hit one target.
The lesson is to check the limit before you spend gems. A cheap unit you can place four of will often beat a rare one you can only place once.
The Villain banner is mostly skins
The Villain banner uses Villain Coins and holds only four units. That sounds nice until you look at what the other pulls give you.
Because only four units live on it, the Rare, Epic and Legendary slots have no units to hand out. They give skins instead.

Only about 1 summon in 385 gives you a unit here. Everything else is a skin. Go in expecting that, and save your coins for the 400-summon promise if a unit is what you are after.
Two more things are different on this banner. Luck potions do nothing at all, and the VIP discount does not apply either. Both work fine on the gem banners.
Shiny units, luck potions and auto sell
Shiny
Any unit you summon has a 1% chance to come out shiny, or 3% with the Shiny Hunter pass. Shiny only changes how a unit looks. It gives no extra power at all.
Say you pull a shiny copy of a unit you have already built up. You can move the shine onto your good copy for 20,000 gold. The copy you took it from is used up, so be sure first.
Luck potions
Luck potions add 25% luck and super ones add 50%. They stack, and each one lasts 10 minutes. Using two just adds the time together.
They do not raise your Secret or event unit chances, and they do nothing on the Villain banner. Save them for normal gem summoning.
Auto sell
Auto sell turns unwanted pulls into gold as they arrive. Secret units are the one thing it will not touch.

There is also a reward for simply owning things. Every new unit added to your Index pays gems, from 50 for a Rare up to 500 for a Secret. Collecting all 37 of them comes to 7,400 gems, which is 148 free summons.
Anime Expeditions units FAQ
How many units are in Anime Expeditions?
There are 54. You can summon or earn 37 of them, and the other 17 are evolved forms you upgrade into.
What is the rarest unit in Anime Expeditions?
The Secret units, at a 0.01% chance. That is 1 in 10,000 summons. There are three you can summon or earn: Shadow, Crow and 8th Sword.
What are the best units in Anime Expeditions?
By plain damage, Toy Maker is highest at 634 a second, then Puppet at 374. Once you count how many copies you may place, String Demon is the strongest at 810 for a full set of three.
How do you get Toy Maker in Anime Expeditions?
You cannot get it any more. Toy Maker was given out for taking part in the Release Tournament, and there is no other way to obtain it.
Which banner should I summon on?
The Mini banner if you want one exact Mythic, because its promise lands on that unit. The Standard banner is fine if you just want any Mythic. Use the Beginner’s banner first, since its tickets come free from the Beginner’s Quest.
How many gems is one summon?
50 gems, or 40 if you have VIP. That works out to 20,000 gems for a guaranteed Mythic, or 16,000 with VIP.
What is the best free unit?
Reaper. It drops from Spirit City Raid Act 2 and is guaranteed by your 20th clear, so it costs no gems. It is also the only unit that turns into a Mythic when it evolves.
Do shiny units hit harder?
No. Shiny is purely a different look. It is worth keeping because you can sell it for Trait Crystals or move the shine onto a better copy.
Does evolving ever make a unit worse?
No. Every evolution in the game raises damage, adds upgrade levels and often adds a new attack. Try to get good stats before you evolve, because each stat moves up a grade.
