Animal Hospital Classes: All 11 and the Best to Pick

Animal Hospital Classes: All 11 and the Best to Pick

Animal Hospital has 11 classes. You pick one in the lobby, and it changes how your shift goes. Some give you more sanity to start with. Others hand you a taser, a fire extinguisher or extra bag space.

This page lists every class, what it costs, and what it does at all three levels. Then it works out which ones are actually worth your coins. A few of the popular picks do not hold up once you look at the numbers. The free class also does better than most people expect.

Quick answer: there are 11 classes. Nine are bought with Animal Coins and two need Robux. The free Intern is the best starting pick. A maxed one begins at 81% sanity, and that beats 8 of the 10 classes you can pay for. The Secretary at 120 coins is the cheapest real upgrade.

How classes work

Classes live in the class shop in the server lobby. Look on the left of your screen, or walk into the big yellow circle next to the ambulance. You buy them with Animal Coins, and two of them need Robux instead.

You only wear one class per shift. It changes how you look, and the name shows up next to your sanity meter once the shift starts.

Every class has three levels

Each class starts at level 1. You raise it with experience that you earn by playing. Level 2 and level 3 make the perk stronger, and sometimes add a whole new one.

This matters more than the class you pick. A level 1 class is often much weaker than the same class at level 3. The Intern is the clearest example, going from 10 bonus sanity up to 20.

All 11 classes and what they cost

Here is the full list. The sanity column is what you start a shift with once the class is at level 3. The normal starting sanity with no class perk is 61 to 65%.

Class Cost Sanity at level 3 Worth knowing
Intern Free 81% The class you already own. Its fur colour changes per player.
Nurse 20 Animal Coins 61 to 65% The cheapest class you can buy.
Secretary 120 Animal Coins 71 to 76% Starts with $20.
Paramedic 250 Animal Coins 61 to 65% Speed and carrying, good for ambulance rushes.
Psychologist 500 Animal Coins 100% The only class that starts at 100% sanity. Job stress is not doubled.
Doctor 900 Animal Coins 81 to 86% The highest starting sanity you can buy with coins.
Firefighter 1,100 Animal Coins 71 to 75% The newest class, added 25 July 2026 with the Hazmat Team update.
Security 1,250 Animal Coins 61 to 65% Starts with $20.
Surgeon 2,500 Animal Coins 71 to 75% The most expensive coin class. Starts with $35.
Head Nurse 80 to 240 Robux 71 to 75% Robux only. Starts with $30.
Secret Agent 360 to 1070 Robux 61 to 65% Robux only. Starts with $50. The gun has friendly fire.

The Firefighter is new. It arrived on 25 July 2026 with the Hazmat Team update. Plenty of class lists still show only 10 classes because they were written before that.

What every class does at each level

This is the part most lists skip. The perk you see in the shop is the level 1 version, and several classes change a lot by level 3.

Class Level 1 Level 2 Level 3
Intern Start with 10 bonus sanity Start with 15 bonus sanity Start with 20 bonus sanity
Nurse +1 max inventory capacity (4 slots) +2 max inventory capacity (5 slots) +3 max inventory capacity (6 slots)
Secretary Recover 1 sanity when checking in patients Recover sanity when checking in patients, +5 bonus sanity Recover sanity when checking in patients, +10 bonus sanity
Paramedic Start with a Large Run Cola (6 uses) Start with a Large Run Cola (9 uses) Start with a Large Run Cola (9 uses), regains 1 use each round
Psychologist All sanity effects are doubled, good and bad All effects doubled, 7.5% chance to ignore a sanity loss All effects doubled, 15% chance to ignore a sanity loss
Doctor Recover 1 sanity when healing patients Recover sanity when healing patients, +15 bonus sanity Recover sanity when healing patients, +20 bonus sanity
Firefighter Start with a Fire Extinguisher, +1 max inventory capacity Recover 1 sanity when putting out fires Immune to sanity drain from fires, +10 bonus sanity
Security Start with an X-Taser (5 uses) Start with an X-Taser and a Deployable Camera X-Taser and Deployable Camera, taser regains 1 use each round
Surgeon Sanity and a short speed boost after healing a patient Sanity and a longer 8 second speed boost after healing Double sanity and a longer speed boost, +10 bonus sanity
Head Nurse +3 max inventory capacity (6 slots) +3 max inventory capacity, +10 bonus sanity +3 capacity, start each round with every treatment already packed
Secret Agent Start with a gun (20 uses) and a scanner, +2 carry capacity Gun has 24 uses and regains 1 use each round Killing anomalies with the gun gives +4 sanity and +5 cash

Look at Security. At level 1 you get a taser with 5 uses. At level 3 you also get a Deployable Camera, and the taser refills 1 use every round. That is a free tool every shift, so you stop buying tasers with your shift money.

Why the Animal Hospital Psychologist is weaker than it looks

The Psychologist is not the tank it looks like

The Psychologist starts at 100% sanity. Every other class starts at 61 to 65%. That looks like the best survival class in the game by a mile, and it is the reason people save up 500 coins for it.

But it doubles all sanity effects, and that includes the bad ones. Levels 2 and 3 only add a small chance to ignore a loss. So here is what you really take:

Level Damage you take What 100% really absorbs
Level 1 2 times normal 50 points
Level 2 1.85 times normal 54.1 points
Level 3 1.7 times normal 58.8 points

A free class lasts longer. A normal class starts at 61 to 65 and takes normal damage. The Psychologist starts at 100 but burns through it faster. Even at level 3 it soaks up about 58.8 points, which is below the 61 a free class gets.

So what are the 500 coins buying? Healing speed. A coffee gives you 30 sanity instead of 15. A chocolate bar gives 120 instead of 60. Job stress is left out of the doubling, so the slow drain does not get worse.

That makes it a strong class for players who already know the checks and can keep the coffee coming. It is a poor class while you are still learning, because one wrong tase costs you 30 sanity instead of 15.

The free class beats most paid ones

The Intern is the class you already own. It gives bonus starting sanity, and at level 3 that bonus is 20 points. You start at 81%.

Now compare that with everything you can buy. Only two paid classes match or beat it. The Doctor reaches 81 to 86%, and the Psychologist shows 100% but really absorbs less, as above.

The other 8 paid classes all start lower than a maxed Intern. That includes the 2,500 coin Surgeon and both Robux classes. If you only care about lasting longer in a shift, you already have the second best option.

This does not mean the paid classes are bad. They give tools, bag space and money that the Intern never will. It means you should buy them for what they carry, not to survive longer.

What a point of sanity actually costs

If you are buying a class just to start higher, this is the rate you are paying at level 3.

Class Cost Bonus sanity Coins per point
Secretary 120 coins 10 points 12 coins
Doctor 900 coins 20 points 45 coins
Firefighter 1,100 coins 10 points 110 coins
Surgeon 2,500 coins 10 points 250 coins

The Secretary is far and away the cheapest at 12 coins a point. The Surgeon charges about 20 times more for the same stat. The Surgeon does other things too, but nobody should buy it for the sanity.

What levelling a class costs

Experience is shared out as you play. You spend it on whichever class you want to raise.

Step Experience Or pay Robux
Level 1 to 2 200 EXP 199 Robux
Level 2 to 3 850 EXP 299 Robux
Full class 1,050 EXP 498 Robux

The second step is the expensive one. Level 3 costs 4.25 times as much experience as level 2 did. Plenty of players get every class to level 2 and stop there, which is a reasonable plan.

Maxing all 11 classes takes 11,550 experience. Skipping all of it with Robux would cost 5,478. Levelling the one class you actually play is much better value than spreading it thin.

How to get Animal Coins

Animal Coins only come from a few places, and one of them is worth far more than the rest.

What you do Coins Notes
Treat a patient 2 coins The fastest way by far
Stop an anomaly 0.5 coins Adds up over a long shift
Let a visitor in 0.5 coins Easy coins at the window
Buy from the shop nurse 1 to 3 coins Costs 100 dollars in game

Treat patients. At 2 coins each it pays four times what an anomaly or a visitor does. If you are saving for a class, take the jobs that put animals in front of you.

To put a number on it, every class you can buy with coins adds up to 6,640 Animal Coins. That is about 3,320 patients treated. It is a long project, so pick one class and finish it.

Coin packs, and which one is worth it

You can also buy coins with Robux. The four packs are not priced evenly, and the small one is poor value.

Pack Price Per coin Verdict
100 coins 99 Robux 0.99 Robux Worst value
500 coins 380 Robux 0.76 Robux
1,500 coins 890 Robux 0.59 Robux
3,250 coins 1590 Robux 0.49 Robux Best value

The biggest pack works out at about 0.49 Robux a coin. The smallest is 0.99. You pay twice as much per coin for buying small, which is the usual pattern but worth seeing written down.

Buying every coin class outright would take about 3,378 Robux, using two big packs and two small ones. That is a lot of money for something you can earn by playing, so treat these packs as a shortcut, not a plan.

The two Robux classes

The Head Nurse and the Secret Agent cannot be bought with coins at all. They are the only two that need real Robux.

Class Price range What you get
Head Nurse 80 to 240 Robux 6 bag slots, $30 to start, and every treatment pre-packed at level 3
Secret Agent 360 to 1,070 Robux A gun and a scanner, $50 to start, and sanity for each anomaly you shoot

Why the price is a range. Roblox charges different amounts in different countries for these two, so there is no single correct number. Guides that print one exact price are showing you what they saw in their own country. Check the shop in your own game.

One warning on the Secret Agent gun. It has friendly fire, so you can shoot a teammate by mistake. That costs you sanity as well as them.

Which class should you pick

The honest answer changes with how long you have played. Here is the order the numbers point to.

  • Brand new. Stay on the Intern and put your first experience into it. Free, and it out-starts nearly everything.
  • First 120 coins. The Secretary. It is the cheapest bonus sanity in the game and it pays you for work you already do at the window.
  • Playing on your own. Security. The free taser every round means you can deal with an anomaly without spending shift money, and the camera at level 3 covers the checks you cannot reach.
  • Confident with the checks. The Psychologist, but only now. Double healing is strong once you stop making wrong calls.
  • Playing with friends who heal. The Doctor. It has the highest starting sanity you can buy with coins, and it pays you for treating.

Whatever you pick, level it up before you buy the next one. A level 3 cheap class beats a level 1 expensive one nearly every time.

Animal Hospital classes FAQ

What is the best class in Animal Hospital?

It depends on what you need. For staying alive, a maxed Intern starts at 81% sanity and costs nothing. For coins, the Secretary is the cheapest way to raise your starting sanity. For dealing with anomalies, Security hands you a free taser every round once it is maxed.

What is the best class for a beginner?

Stay on the Intern and level it up. It is free, and it starts you higher than 8 of the 10 paid classes. The extra sanity gives you room to make mistakes while you learn.

Is the Psychologist worth 500 coins?

Only if you already play well. It starts at 100% sanity, but it doubles every loss too. That means it soaks up less punishment than a free class does. What you really get is double healing from coffee and chocolate.

How many classes are there?

There are 11 right now. The Firefighter is the newest and arrived on 25 July 2026 with the Hazmat Team update. Lists that show only 10 were written before that.

How do you level up a class?

You earn experience by playing. Getting a class to level 2 takes 200 experience, and level 3 takes another 850. That is 1,050 in total for one class.

Can you skip the wait with Robux?

Yes. Level 2 costs 199 Robux and level 3 costs 299, so 498 Robux maxes one class. Doing that for all 11 would cost 5,478 Robux.

How do you get Animal Coins fast?

Treat patients. Each one gives 2 coins, which is four times what you get for stopping an anomaly or letting a visitor in. Long shifts with lots of treatments pay best.

Which classes need Robux?

Only two. The Head Nurse and the Secret Agent cannot be bought with Animal Coins. Their price changes depending on where you live, so the number you see may not match a guide.
