You have saved up some Bucks and you want the egg that gives you the best shot at a Legendary. The Nursery shows you four eggs and four prices, and it never tells you the odds. Here is every egg in Adopt Me, what it costs, and the exact chance of each rarity coming out of it.
There are 38 eggs in the game. 10 of them you can get on any normal day, one more shows up only during a staff event, and 27 are retired, which means trading is the only way to get one now.
Once you put the prices and the odds side by side, the answer to “which egg should I buy” stops being the obvious one. The dearest egg on the shelf turns out to be the best value, the cheapest one is fourth out of five, and the two best eggs in the whole game cost no Bucks at all.
The Quick Answer
Best egg to buy: the Royal Egg, at 1,450 Bucks. It costs the most on the shelf and the least per Legendary, about 18,125 Bucks for one. The Cracked Egg looks cheap at 350 Bucks but works out at 23,333.
Best eggs full stop: the Golden Egg and the Diamond Egg. Both hatch a Legendary every time and cost no Bucks. They come from Star Rewards, so the price is 180 days of logging in rather than money.
How Egg Odds Work
Every egg has five numbers attached to it, one for each rarity: Common, Uncommon, Rare, Ultra-Rare and Legendary. They always add up to 100. When you hatch, the game rolls once against those five numbers and gives you a pet from whichever band it lands on.
The number is not a countdown and it has no memory. A 3% Legendary chance means 3% on your first egg and 3% on your fiftieth. Ten eggs in a row with no Legendary does not make the next one likelier.
The bit that catches people out. The odds get you a rarity, not a pet. There are 225 different Legendary pets in Adopt Me, so the Royal Egg’s 8% chance is roughly 1 in 2,812 for one particular Legendary you had your eye on.
All 11 Eggs You Can Still Get
These are sorted by Legendary chance, best first. Ten of them are around every day. The Admin Abuse Egg is the exception, since it only appears while a staff event is running.

What a Legendary Really Costs
Divide the price by the Legendary chance and you get the honest number: how many Bucks you spend, on average, before a Legendary comes out. This covers the five eggs you buy with Bucks any day of the week.

The order is close to upside down. The Royal Egg is the priciest egg on the shelf and the best value on this table. The Cracked Egg is the cheapest and comes fourth. Compare the five eggs two at a time and the dearer one is the better deal in 6 of the 10 pairs.
The answer changes with what you want. If any Ultra-Rare or better would make you happy, the Pet Egg is the best of the five at 3,333 Bucks each, ahead of the Royal Egg’s 3,816. Chasing Legendaries and chasing good pets are two different shopping lists.
One egg is worth skipping. The Endangered Egg costs 750 Bucks and gives the same 3% Legendary chance as eggs costing 600, which makes it the worst value of the five.
The Two Best Eggs Are Free
The Golden Egg and the Diamond Egg both hatch a Legendary 100% of the time. No other egg in the game comes close, and neither one costs a single Buck.
They come from Star Rewards, which fills up from your daily login streak. The Golden Egg sits at the end of the first reward list at 660 stars, which works out at about 180 days. Claim it and your stars reset, and the Diamond Egg waits at the end of the second list, another 660 stars away.
So they are free in Bucks and expensive in time. If you play most days anyway, these two are the best Legendary route in the game and you do not have to save up for them. You do have to claim the earlier prizes first, and breaking the streak costs you progress.
Legendary Is the Biggest Group of Pets
Here is the part that makes the odds make sense. Counting every pet in the game, Legendary is not a tiny club at the top. It is the biggest group of the five.

There are 225 Legendary pets and only 59 Commons. The word Legendary describes the kind of pet, and mostly how old it is, rather than how hard it is to get. Years of events have piled up hundreds of them.
That is why a Legendary roll so often gives you something you did not want. The egg gets you into a group of 225, and which one you get is a separate roll you have no say over. Trading, not hatching, is how people get a specific pet.
The 27 Retired Eggs
These are gone from the shop. You will still see them in lists and videos, and the only way to get one now is to trade for it. Their odds are here because a retired egg is still worth understanding when someone offers you one.

One number to be careful with. The big egg table on the community wiki lists the Royal Desert Egg with 35% Common, which pushes that row up to 135% in total. The egg’s own page says 0% Common, and those five numbers add up to exactly 100. We have used the egg’s own page here. Every other egg matches on both.
Adopt Me Eggs FAQ
What is the best egg to buy in Adopt Me?
The Royal Egg at 1,450 Bucks. It has the best Legendary chance of any egg you can buy at 8%, and it works out cheapest per Legendary at about 18,125 Bucks.
Is the Cracked Egg worth it?
Only if you are short on Bucks right now. At 350 it is the cheapest way to hatch something, but its 1.5% Legendary chance makes it the fourth best value of the five.
How do I get a Legendary pet for free?
Keep your daily login streak. The Golden Egg and Diamond Egg from Star Rewards both hatch a Legendary every time and cost nothing, though each one takes 660 stars, or about 180 days.
How many eggs are in Adopt Me?
38 in total. 10 are around every day, the Admin Abuse Egg turns up during staff events, and 27 are retired and trade-only.
How many Legendary pets are there?
225, out of 721 pets in the game. That makes Legendary the biggest rarity group, which is why a Legendary hatch is rarely the exact pet you wanted.
Do the odds get better the more eggs I hatch?
No. Each hatch rolls on its own, so a long run of bad luck does not improve the next egg. The chance is the same every time.
Which egg is best for Ultra-Rare pets?
The Pet Egg. It costs about 3,333 Bucks per Ultra-Rare or better, which beats the Royal Egg for that goal.
Can I still get the Safari Egg or the Ocean Egg?
Not from the shop. Both retired, along with 25 others, so trading with other players is the only route left.
