How to Survive 99 Nights
“How do I actually make it to Night 99?”
In 99 Nights in the Forest, your job is simple to say and hard to do. You have to live through 99 days in a dark forest while a scary deer creature hunts you. You keep a campfire burning, find food, and try not to die.
The good news is the game follows a pattern. The same dangers wake up on the same days every time. Once you know what is coming, you can get ready for it instead of getting jumped.
This guide walks you through the whole run: what happens each day, how to get diamonds, how to wake the Mother Tree, and how to turn on Hard Mode. Want the monster and item details instead? See our animals and items list, and grab freebies on the codes page.
The same dangers wake up on the same days. Learn the pattern and you survive.
The Quick Answer
To win, survive to Day 99. Keep your campfire lit at all times, because the dark is when things attack. Gather wood and food during the day, and fight or hide at night.
The best trick is to rescue the 4 missing kids. Each child you save cuts down the number of nights you need, so you reach the end faster.
Watch out for the Deer, the cultists who raid at night, and bigger monsters like the Owl and the Ram that wake up later.
How the Game Works
You start in the forest with almost nothing. During the day you chop trees for wood, hunt animals for food, and open chests for loot and guns. At night you stay near the fire and defend yourself.
The campfire is the heart of your camp. If it goes out, you lose your safe spot in the dark, so always keep wood on it. The Deer is the main enemy. It sleeps at the start but wakes up on Day 2 and hunts you after that.
You do not have to stop at Day 99. You can keep going as long as you want. But reaching Night 99 is the real goal, and saving the 4 lost kids is the fastest way there.
What Happens on Each Day
Here is the pattern the game follows. Knowing this is the biggest advantage you can have, because you can prepare the day before something dangerous shows up.
| Day |
What happens |
| Day 1 |
A safe start. The Deer does not attack yet, so gather as much wood and food as you can. |
| Day 2 |
The Deer wakes up. The first Pelt Trader shows up to buy and sell (then every 3 to 4 days). |
| Day 3 |
The carnival might open, or frogs may spawn. At night an Alien or Meteor can appear. |
| Day 4 |
The first cultist night raid hits. After this, cultists attack every 4 days. |
| Day 5 |
One of the big monsters wakes up: the Owl, the Ram, or the Cat. Rain also starts. |
| Day 8 |
Rain and thunder weather begins, which makes nights harder to see in. |
| Day 50 |
The halfway point. You earn 2 diamonds (4 in Hard Mode) for making it this far. |
| Day 99 |
You beat the game. You get 3 diamonds, and even more in Hard Mode. |
The Pelt Trader and cultist raids only follow this exact timing after Day 10. In the first 10 days they always come on schedule, no matter what.
How to Get Diamonds
Diamonds are the main currency. You use them to buy Classes in the lobby, and to roll or reroll talents that make your class stronger. Here is every way to earn them.
| Where |
How many diamonds |
| Reaching Day 50 |
2 diamonds, or 4 in Hard Mode. |
| Reaching Day 99 |
3 diamonds, and several more in Hard Mode. |
| Cultist Stronghold chest |
A Diamond Chest gives 5 at once. |
| Daily Quests |
You roll 3 each day (easy, moderate, hard). Finishing any of them gives diamonds. |
| Chests around the map |
Many chests hold a single diamond, so open every one you find. |
| Update Parties |
Just before a game update, the developers spawn diamonds for players in the party. |
Best tip: do your daily quests every single day and always open chests. The moderate and hard quests can also give you a free fire upgrade, so they are worth the effort.
How to Wake the Mother Tree
The Mother Tree is a giant pink tree hidden in the Fairy Forest area. A lot of players search for it because it gives a special reward, but they cannot figure out how to use it.
Here is how it works. Around the tree are seeds. When you plant a seed, the nearest root moves toward where you planted it. Your goal is to lead every root to water to give the tree a drink. Once all the roots reach water, the tree rewards you with a special chest.
The trick is to plant each seed as far from a root as you can, then plant closer and closer until the root follows. That way you guide the roots all the way to a lake or pond instead of wasting seeds.
How to Turn On Hard Mode
Hard Mode was added in early 2026. It makes the game much tougher but pays out far more diamonds. You cannot just pick it from a menu. Your team has to vote for it, and there are rules.
First, find the Research Outpost and go to the basement. Pull the lever with your name on it to vote. You have to do this within the first 9 minutes, before the end of Night 2. If you wait too long, you cannot start Hard Mode that run.
Enough players have to vote yes for it to begin. Here is how many you need.
| Players in the game |
Votes needed |
| 1 player |
1 of 1 |
| 2 players |
2 of 2 |
| 3 players |
2 of 3 |
| 4 players |
3 of 4 |
| 5 players |
3 of 5 |
Find the lever, pull it early, and get enough players to vote yes.
When it starts, the forest gets corrupted. Purple rifts open, corrupted wolves appear, and things get harder. But the Research Outpost chests unlock too, giving you a Corruption Scanner that points to the nearest rift, plus super stews that never rot. And your diamond rewards go way up.
Top Survival Tips
- Never let your campfire go out. Stock up wood during the day so night never catches you cold.
- Spend Day 1 gathering, not exploring. The Deer is asleep, so it is your safest day.
- Rescue the 4 missing kids as soon as you can. Each one shortens the whole run.
- Get ready for Day 4. The first cultist raid hits then, so have weapons and a plan.
- Open every chest you walk past. Most hold loot, and many hold a diamond.
- Do all 3 daily quests. They give diamonds and sometimes a free fire upgrade.
- Grab free rewards from the 99 Nights codes page.
Updated July 2026. 99 Nights in the Forest gets new events, biomes, and monsters often. We keep this guide current as the game changes, so the day pattern and Hard Mode steps stay correct.
