99 Nights in the Forest Animals
“Which animals are safe, which ones want you gone, and what gear keeps you alive?”
Last Updated: July 2026
99 Nights in the Forest is one of the biggest survival games on Roblox. You and your squad build a camp in a dark forest, keep the campfire burning, and try to last 99 nights while something out there watches you.
The forest is packed with creatures, and they are not all out to get you. Some animals are harmless snacks on legs, some only fight back if you start it, and a few hunt you the second the sun goes down.
Gear matters just as much. The game has more than a hundred items spread across chests, traders, fishing spots, and classes, and knowing which ones to grab first saves a lot of painful nights.
New to the game? Our 99 Nights in the Forest wiki covers the basics, and the 99 Nights in the Forest codes page lists any freebies you can claim.
Below is the full animal list sorted by danger level, plus the items and weapons worth chasing.
The Quick Answer
Animals in 99 Nights in the Forest fall into five groups: Safe critters like bunnies and turkeys, Neutral mammoths that only fight if provoked, Hostile wildlife like wolves, bears, and polar bears, Cultists who raid your camp, and Monsters like The Deer, which cannot be killed and hunts you at night. For items, grab a Good Axe and a bigger sack early, then chase the Strong Axe, Chainsaw, and a Rifle from rarer chests and the Pelt Trader.
How Surviving the Forest Works
Before the list, here is the loop every run follows. Once you know it, the danger levels below make a lot more sense.
1
Keep the campfire burning. Chop trees for logs and feed the fire every single day. The campfire is your light, your safe zone, and the thing standing between you and the dark.
2
Explore while the sun is up. Daytime is for looting chests, gathering food, and hunting. The map hides better chests the further you go, but the trip back gets riskier too.
3
Hold the camp at night. Wolves prowl, cultists raid, and The Deer hunts anyone caught in the dark. Stay near the fire, keep a weapon ready, and patch teammates up fast.
4
Rescue the four missing kids. Dino Kid, Kraken Kid, Squid Kid, and Koala Kid are lost out there. Saving them boosts your rewards, and lasting all 99 nights is the real win. Our wiki covers the full loop.
All Animals in 99 Nights in the Forest by Danger Level
Here is every group, what it means for you, and who is in it. The game gets updates almost every week, so treat the exact rosters as a snapshot rather than set in stone.
| Danger level |
What it means |
Who is in it |
| Safe |
Friendly critters that never attack. Hunt them for food and pelts, or just leave them alone. |
Bunny, Horse, Turkey, Kiwi, Chick |
| Neutral |
These giants ignore you until someone hits them first. An angry mammoth is not a fight you want. |
Mammoth, Mossy Mammoth |
| Hostile wildlife |
Animals that chase you the moment you get too close. Wolves are everywhere, and the bears hit very hard. |
Wolf, Alpha Wolf, Bear, Polar Bear, Arctic Fox, Scorpion, Frogs, Boar, Hellephant, Meteor Crab, Aliens |
| Cultists |
Followers of The Deer. They guard loot around the map and raid your camp at night, and they never despawn. |
Cultist, Crossbow Cultist, Juggernaut Cultist, Shadow Cultist, Brute Cultist, Darkstring Cultist, Jungle Cultists, Mega Cultist, and the Cultist King boss |
| Monsters |
The real villains of the forest. They come out in the dark, and most of them cannot be fought head-on. |
The Deer, The Owl, The Ram, The Bat, The Cat |
The monsters that hunt you
The Deer is the main villain, a towering deer monster that stalks the forest at night and cannot be killed, so your only move is to stay in the light and out of its path. The Owl, The Ram, The Bat, and The Cat each bring their own nasty tricks after dark. The Cultist King is the boss fight of the cult side, and beating him drops some of the best loot in the game. Which monster shows up can depend on the night and the update, so expect surprises.
Can you tame animals? Yes. Use a Taming Flute from the Tool Trader, win a short balance minigame, then feed the animal the foods it asks for. Around a dozen animals can be tamed, from bunnies and kiwis all the way up to wolves, bears, polar bears, and even mammoths and the Hellephant. You can keep 2 pets at a time, or 3 with a Strong Flute, and tamed pets follow you and fight for you. The tameable list grows with updates.
Green rows are your day-one kit. Gold rows are the gear worth hunting rare chests for.

Is there one best weapon? Not really. Some of the strongest gear is locked to a class, like the Katana for the Assassin or the Flamethrower for the Pyromaniac, and chest luck decides a lot of the rest. A solid axe plus any ranged weapon covers most runs. New weapons arrive in nearly every update, so the top pick keeps changing.
Tips for Lasting More Nights
- Never let the campfire die. Stock more logs than you think you need before the sun sets.
- Do not try to fight The Deer. Stay in the light, stay quiet, and let it pass.
- Save your pelts. Bunny feet, wolf pelts, and bear pelts trade up to serious gear at the Pelt Trader.
- Check the 99 Nights in the Forest codes page for freebies that speed up class unlocks.
- Bring friends. Servers hold up to 25 players, and a full camp splits chores like wood runs and night watch.
