Type Soul Tier List
“Which race should you actually pick, and which of its moves are worth building around?”
Last Updated: July 2026
Type Soul is the Bleach-inspired PvP game that turned soul reapers, hollows, and Quincy snipers into a full Roblox fighting sim, and picking the right race and ability is most of the battle.
The game has racked up more than 800 million visits since 2023, though the crowd playing right now is much smaller than its original hype peak. That said, the developers are still actively patching it, with a Resurgence update in May 2026 adding new elements and a fresh Battle Pass.
Every race gets its own signature ability system, and every tracker online ranks those abilities a little differently. We cross-checked several of them to find the picks that actually hold up no matter who is doing the ranking.
New to the game? Our Type Soul wiki covers the basics, and the Type Soul codes page lists any free rerolls and boosts you can claim.
Below is how the races compare, the moveset picks that show up everywhere, and exactly why so many tier lists disagree.
The Quick Answer
Arrancar is the current meta-leading race thanks to recent Starrk and Light buffs, with Shinigami a close second and Quincy a solid ranged option a step behind. For movesets, the picks that hold up across every tracker are Ink, Blood, Ice, Kyokasuigetsu, and Assimilation for Shikai, Nimble and Overkill for Schrift, and Slash, Arrogante, Storm, Stark, Volcanica, Light, and Pantera for Resurrection.
How Races Work in Type Soul
Before the comparison, here is how the race system actually fits together. Every ranking below is really ranking a piece of this loop.
1
Pick your race at the start. Quincy, Shinigami, or Hollow (which becomes Arrancar after removing its mask), with a newer Fullbringer path unlockable later through the Arrancar route.
2
Level up your race-specific system. Schrift for Quincy, Shikai then Bankai for Shinigami, Resurrection then Segunda Etapa for Hollow and Arrancar. This is the exact system every tier list below is trying to rank.
3
Fight and quest within your race. Each race has its own PvE questline, and PvP raids match you against opponents of the same race, so your choice shapes the whole experience, not just your stats.
4
Refine your build with rerolls. Element, Weapon, and Clan rerolls let you change your specific ability without switching races entirely. Check the Type Soul codes page for free rerolls before you start grinding for one.
The Races Compared
Type Soul only offers a few real starting paths, even though some tier list sites stretch that into a much longer list (more on that below). Here is how the three core races actually compare.
| Race |
Signature system |
Playstyle |
Current standing |
| Arrancar (Hollow) |
Resurrection, then Segunda Etapa, plus Cero blasts and Hierro armor. |
High burst damage with a cero-based ranged and melee hybrid kit. |
Widely called the current meta leader thanks to recent Starrk and Light buffs. |
| Shinigami / Soul Reaper |
Shikai, then Bankai, plus Kido spells and special Hakuda fighting styles. |
The most flexible melee kit, with the widest range of named zanpakuto to choose from. |
A close second to Arrancar, and the safest pick if you want variety. |
| Quincy |
Schrift abilities, Vollstandig transformation, and Blut for defense or offense. |
Bow-based ranged combat with high-tech Cybernetic box gadgets. |
A strong ranged specialist, currently a step behind the other two in raw meta standing. |
Why race tier lists disagree so much
Some trackers publish a “race tier list” with ten or more entries, mixing in names like Menos, Adjuchas, Vasto Lorde, and hybrid forms like Vizard or the Menoscar/Vastocar combos. Those are real parts of the Hollow evolution line and hybrid unlocks.
The game itself only recognizes a handful of actual races: Quincy, Shinigami, Hollow (which becomes Arrancar), and now Fullbringer. Treat any list that ranks ten-plus “races” against each other as mixing starting choices with evolution stages, not a real pick-one-at-creation comparison.
Every pick listed here appears in the top tier on more than one tracker, even when the exact letter grade moves around.
Best Movesets by System
Each race hides its real depth in its own ability system. Rather than repeat one site’s exact S-A-B-C board, here are the picks that show up near the top no matter which tracker you check.
| System |
Top picks |
Why |
| Shikai (Shinigami) |
Ink, Blood, Ice, Kyokasuigetsu, Assimilation |
These five show up near the top of every tracker we checked, even when the exact S-tier cutoff moves around. |
| Schrift (Quincy) |
Nimble, Overkill |
The only two Schrift abilities that land in S-tier on every list, making them the safest reroll target. |
| Resurrection (Hollow/Arrancar) |
Slash, Arrogante, Storm, Stark, Volcanica, Light, Pantera |
A wide S-to-A cluster across trackers, and Stark specifically got real buffs in recent patches. |
Why do exact tier placements swing so much? A handful of named picks land in completely different tiers depending on the tracker. Shinso shows up as low as D-tier on one list and as high as A-tier on another. Berserk and Water swing between B-tier and S-tier, Benihime swings the opposite way from S-tier to B-tier, Death-Dealing jumps from B-tier to S-tier, and Bone and Acid each flip between C-tier and S-tier depending on the source. Small player counts and fast balance patches make this kind of disagreement normal, so treat the consensus picks above as the safer bet and anything contested as a matter of personal testing.
What about Fullbringer? Fullbringer is a newer path added during a 2025 relaunch update, playable by humans who inherited traces of Hollow energy and can manipulate the “soul” of everyday objects. It is unlocked through the Arrancar progression line rather than picked at character creation, and it is still too new for tier list trackers to agree on where it lands. If you want to try something different from the three main races, it is worth a look once you have an Arrancar established.
Tips for Picking a Race and Build
- Try each race in a fresh server before committing. The race system shapes your entire questline, not just your combat stats.
- Lean into Arrancar or Shinigami right now if raw meta standing matters most to you, since both sit ahead of Quincy in the current patch.
- Save rerolls for the consensus picks above rather than gambling on a hotly contested one until you have tested it yourself.
- Do not fully trust any single tier list site. Cross-check a pick against at least two sources before spending a reroll on it.
- Keep an eye on patch notes. Balance changes land often enough that today’s bottom-tier pick can become tomorrow’s meta favorite.
- Check the Type Soul codes page for free element and weapon rerolls before you grind for one.
