Trade in Roblox
“Swap Limited items and Robux with other players, safely.”
Last Updated: June 2026
Trading is how players on Roblox swap special collectible items with each other. It can be fun, but it also has some rules and a few traps to avoid.
The official Roblox trade system only handles two things: rare “Limited” items and Robux. You cannot trade your normal clothes, accessories, or game passes through it.
There are also a couple of gates. Both players need a paid membership, both need to be at least 13, and both need trading switched on.
The biggest thing to remember is that Roblox can never undo a trade once it is done, which is why scammers love trading. So safety really matters here.
Well, here is exactly how to trade in Roblox, who is allowed to, and how to stay safe while you do it.
The Quick Answer
To trade, both players need Roblox Plus (the paid membership), need to be 13 or older, and need trading turned on. Go to the other player’s profile, click the three-dot More (…) button, and choose Trade Items. Pick the Limited item(s) you will give and the one(s) you want, add Robux to either side to make it fair, then press Make Offer. Only Limited items and Robux can be traded, and a finished trade can never be undone, so always check carefully.
Two different kinds of “trading”
“Trading in Roblox” can mean two things. This guide covers the official Roblox trade system, which swaps rare Limited items and Robux between accounts. Trading inside a single game, like swapping pets in a popular adoption game or skins in a mystery game, is a totally separate thing that happens in that game and has its own buttons and rules. If you want to trade pets or in-game items, look for a trade option inside that game instead.
How to Trade in Roblox
1
Check that you are allowed to trade
Trading is not open to everyone, so the first step is making sure you and the other player both meet the rules.
– Both players need an active Roblox Plus membership, the paid monthly membership that replaced Premium in 2026; free accounts cannot trade
– Both players must be at least 13 years old (younger players need a parent’s permission)
– You can only trade rare Limited items and Robux, not normal clothes, accessories, or game passes
2
Turn on trading in your settings
Before any offer can be sent, trading has to be switched on for both people.
– Open Settings, then go to Privacy & content restrictions, then Trading & inventory
– Set “Who can trade with me?” to Friends to stay safe, instead of Everyone (you can pick No one to switch trading off completely)
– Make sure your inventory is visible enough for the other player to see the item you are offering
3
Open the other player’s profile and pick Trade Items
Trades always start from the other person’s profile page, not from inside a game.
– Go to the profile of the player you want to trade with (usually a friend, since Friends is the safe setting)
– Click the three-dot More (…) button near the top of their profile
– Choose Trade Items to open the trade window; if you do not see it, one of you is missing a requirement from steps 1 and 2
Keep “Who can trade with me?” set to Friends, and remember the golden rule: never send your items first, because a finished trade cannot be undone.
4
Build your offer
Now you choose what to give and what you hope to get back, side by side.
– On your side, tick the Limited item or items you are willing to give away
– On their side, tick the item or items you want from them
– You can add Robux to either side to make the deal feel fair to both players
5
Send the offer and wait for a reply
Once your offer looks right, you send it and the other player decides.
– Press Make Offer to send the trade request
– They can Accept it, Decline it, or send back a Counter offer with different items
– After a trade, items often have a short holding period (usually a couple of days) before they can be traded again, and any Robux you earn shows as “Pending” until that hold ends
6
Trade safely (the most important step)
This is the part that keeps your items and your account safe, so never skip it.
– Roblox can never undo a finished trade, so double-check both sides before you accept anything
– Never agree to “you send first and I will send back” or use a fake “middleman”; that is the most common way people get robbed
– Never share your password or login codes to “prove” a trade, and ignore any website that promises free items or Robux, because those are scams (if your account is ever taken, here is how to get it back)
– Keep “Who can trade with me?” set to Friends, only trade with people you know, and ask a parent before any big trade (more on staying safe on Roblox)
Roblox Trading FAQ
How do you trade in Roblox?
Go to the other player’s profile, click the three-dot More button, and choose Trade Items. Pick the Limited item or Robux you will give and the item you want, then press Make Offer. Both players need Roblox Plus, need to be 13 or older, and need trading turned on first.
Do you need Premium to trade in Roblox?
You need the paid membership, yes. Premium was replaced by Roblox Plus in 2026, and now both players in a trade need an active Roblox Plus membership. Free accounts cannot trade at all.
What can you trade in Roblox?
Only rare Limited and Limited U items, plus Robux, can be traded through the official trade system. You cannot trade normal clothes, accessories, or game passes. Trading pets or items inside a game, like an adoption or mystery game, is separate and happens in that game.
How do I trade with a friend?
Make sure you both have Roblox Plus and trading turned on, then open your friend’s profile, click the three-dot More button, and choose Trade Items. Setting “Who can trade with me?” to Friends is the safest way to trade, since it blocks offers from strangers.
Is trading in Roblox safe?
It can be safe if you only trade with people you know and never send your items first. The big risk is scams, because Roblox cannot undo a trade once it is finished. Never trust “send first” deals, fake middlemen, or sites promising free Robux, and never share your password.
Why can’t I trade in Roblox?
The usual reasons are that you or the other player does not have Roblox Plus, one of you is under 13, trading is turned off in the settings, or their privacy settings do not allow you to trade with them. Check those four things and the Trade Items button should appear.
The bottom line
Trading on Roblox lets you swap Limited items and Robux with other players. Both of you need Roblox Plus and to be 13 or older, then you open their profile, tap the three-dot menu, choose Trade Items, build your offer, and press Make Offer. Only ever trade with people you know, never send first, and remember a finished trade cannot be undone. For the full official rules, see Roblox’s own Help Center.
