Heroes Battlegrounds has 19 characters you can play. Ten are free from the start. The other nine come from mastery, a boss fight or a game pass.

Quick answer. Mastered characters need 100% mastery with their normal version. Warp Portal drops from The Prototype boss. Human Battery, Huge Lady and The Strongest come from game passes, and The Strongest also has a tiny free chance.

Every character is a hero or a villain, except The Strongest. The Prototype is a boss, so you cannot play as it.

How to unlock the mastered characters
Five characters have a mastered form with new moves: Green Hero, Hero Slayer, Azure Flames, Split Ice and Explosion Hero. Get 100% mastery with the normal one and the mastered one unlocks. You also get a badge.
You build mastery through quests. Codes sometimes give mastery too, so check the Heroes Battlegrounds codes.

The two oldest came out on the same day. 2,789,386 players mastered Green Hero, and 2,061,336 mastered Hero Slayer. That is 1.35 times as many for Green Hero.
How to unlock Warp Portal
Fight The Prototype boss. When it dies, the top 3 players for damage get a chance at Warp Portal. If you miss, your chance goes up for next time.
14,299,484 players have beaten The Prototype. 4,469,798 have Warp Portal. So about 1 in 3 boss winners got it. Both badges came out on the same day.
How to unlock The Strongest
There are two ways. Buy the Private Server Commands game pass for 499 Robux and use it in your private server. Or talk to the Gojo NPC for a 1 in 1,350,000 chance to play it for 24 hours.
That chance is tiny. Only 54 players have the badge for hitting it.
Human Battery and Huge Lady
Human Battery comes with the Early Access game pass, which costs 245 Robux. Early Access gives you new characters before everyone else. Once a character is released to everyone, it is free.
Huge Lady comes with the Private Server Commands game pass, the same one as The Strongest.

- Pick one free character and stick with it. Mastery is per character.
- Bring friends to The Prototype. Only the top 3 for damage get a shot at Warp Portal.
- You do not need to pay to play most of the roster. 10 characters and 6 unlocks are free.
