Examination has 9 main classes. Everyone spawns as Classless first, with almost no gear. Then you pick a class from the locker in the lobby.
Three classes are free. The other six need a badge. This page shows every class, how to unlock it, and how many players have done it. Checked on October 31, 2026.
Quick answer. Standard, Breacher and Medic are free. Leader needs the VETERAN-OF-PURGATORY badge. Operator, Pointman, Corpsman and Commander need UNDEREQUIPPED. Enforcer needs Delgado’s task.

The four Special Forces classes are stronger versions of the four Regular ones. Enforcer is the odd one out. It carries a shield and has no Regular version.

How to unlock Leader
You need the VETERAN-OF-PURGATORY badge. Finish one run of the game without dying. You get it when you reach the Sector 3 entrance.

How to unlock the Special Forces classes
Operator, Pointman, Corpsman and Commander all come from one badge, UNDEREQUIPPED. To get it, start a private server on your own. Do not pick a class. Stay Classless and reach the Sector 3 entrance.
The badge text itself says it is meant to be very hard and unfair. Still, 386,535 players have it.
How to unlock Enforcer
Find Carlos Delgado and take his task. You need to kill 15 Shielders. Finish it and you get the MENLONIAN-CONSTABULARY badge, which unlocks Enforcer.
Enforcer comes with a Beanbag Shotgun, the FSS Deadbolt shield, a TASC-10 taser and a Flashbang. This badge does not change your rank.
How many players unlocked each class
Out of everyone who entered the power plant, about 1 in 4.3 has the Leader badge. About 1 in 13 has the Special Forces badge.
Here is a surprise. UNDEREQUIPPED and LOST_COMMAND came out on the same day. LOST_COMMAND means beating the game solo as Leader. Yet 2.3 times as many players beat it solo with no class at all.

Tips before you try
- Do the tutorial first. The INTO_THE_FRAY badge gives you 10% more stamina for good. Press M, open Game, and you can replay it.
- Get Leader before you try UNDEREQUIPPED. Both end at the Sector 3 entrance, so you learn the route.
- Beat the game solo once in a private server for ONE-MAN-ARMY. It unlocks Night Vision and Slide.
