Your race in Blox Fruits is handed to you the first time you join, and most players never find out that the one they got was the likeliest of the bunch. It also changes how you move and fight for the whole game.
This page has all 7 races, the chance of rolling each one, how to unlock the ones you cannot roll, and every step from V1 up to the V4 trial. It also clears up the three that were renamed, because the old names are still everywhere.
The short version. Only 4 of the 7 races can ever be rolled, and Human alone takes 62.5 percent of that roll, which is about 5 in every 8 players. Rabbit, Shark and Angel split the rest evenly. The other three are earned through quests and never turn up in a roll.

A re-roll will not get you the rare ones. Paying 3,000 Fragments to Tort, or 90 Robux in the shop, gives you a random pick from the same four starting races. Cyborg, Ghoul and Draco are never in that pool, so no amount of re-rolling will hand you one.
Three races were renamed
If you have read about Mink, Fish or Sky and cannot find them in the game, that is why. They still exist, just under new names.

Older lists still use the old names, and some mix them up with things that were never races at all. Fishman, for example, is an enemy you fight, not a race you can be.
Switching costs are not the same for every race
This is the part that catches people out. The three quest races can be picked again whenever you want, but the four starting races cannot be chosen at all. You only get another random roll.

Worth knowing before you pick. Cyborg charges 2,500 Fragments every time, while Ghoul and Draco cost nothing at all once you have done their quest. If you like swapping around, that gap adds up fast.
Upgrading from V1 to V4
Every race has four versions. V1 is what you start with and gives no bonus at all. Each version after that adds more.
- V2 comes from the Alchemist in the Green Zone. You need to be level 850, finish the Colosseum quest first, then the Flower quest, and it costs 500,000 in-game money.
- V3 comes from Arowe. You need to be level 1,000, you need V2, and you must have beaten Don Swan, and it costs 2,000,000. He then sets you a task that depends on your race.
- V4 is the race awakening. You finish a puzzle, then run a trial named after your race.

Draco is on a harder track than the rest. Its V2 needs level 2,000 rather than 850, and asks for 5 Fire Flowers that drop rarely and carry a 5 minute wait each, plus 1,000,000 money.
The gears at V4, and why five is really four
Awakening gives you gears rather than one single unlock. There are 5 of them, but you only need 4 trials to be fully awakened.
The first gear turns the transformation on. The next three let you pick abilities. The fifth is the one people skip, and it is worth knowing what it does: it unlocks the Ancient Clock, which lets you swap your gears whenever you like. Without it you have to run a trial again or rejoin the game to change them.
Which race should you pick
There is no single best answer, because the races do different jobs and you are mostly stuck with what you rolled. What the game tells you plainly is this:
- Human hits hardest and moves well, with nothing to protect you.
- Rabbit is the fastest, which decides most chases either way.
- Shark is the only one that is not slowed down by water.
- Angel jumps highest and handles best in the air.
- Cyborg is the toughest of the seven.
- Ghoul gets stronger after dark and takes health back off whoever it hits.
- Draco is the heaviest hitter and the hardest to unlock.

Questions players ask
How many races are in Blox Fruits? 7. Four you can roll and three you unlock with quests.
What is the rarest race? None of the three quest races appear in a roll at all, so they are not rare so much as earned. Of the four you can roll, Rabbit, Shark and Angel are each 12.5 percent.
How do I get the Cyborg race? Finish the Cyborg puzzle. After that, switching back to it costs 2,500 Fragments every time.
How do I get the Ghoul race? Buy it from the Experimic for 100 Ectoplasm and a Hellfire Torch. Once you own it, switching to it is free.
Can I choose my race? Not at the start. You can pay to re-roll, but it stays random and only ever gives one of the same four.
What is race V4? The awakening. You finish a puzzle and then a trial named for your race, and you get a title with it, like Berserker for Human.
