In Prison Life, every Inmate wants out. There are three real ways to escape, and each one needs something different. Pick the wrong one and the Guards will catch you fast.

Quick answer. The kitchen vents need no item, but someone must open the kitchen door. A Keycard opens the guard doors, and half of all Guards drop one. The Hammer breaks a cell toilet so you can escape through the sewers.

You have escaped when you see the message “You’ve escaped the prison. Don’t get caught!” Now you are a Criminal.
How to get a Keycard
You can only get a Keycard from a Guard. When a Guard goes down, it drops a Keycard half the time. The rest of the time it drops an M9 pistol. So on average you need to take down 2 Guards for one Keycard.
Grab the Crude Knife or the Hammer from the yard first. They hit much harder than your fists. If someone takes one, it comes back after 20 seconds.
Keep the Keycard in your pack until you need it. Guards can only treat you as dangerous once you hold it out.
How many hits to take down a Guard
A Guard has 100 health. Guards with the Riot Police pass can wear Kevlar armor, which raises it to 140. Here is how many hits each weapon needs.

The Crude Knife is the best pick. It needs 4 hits, while the Hammer needs 5. Use the Hammer only when you want to break a toilet.
The toilet and sewers way
- The yard door is open during Yardtime and Free Time. That is when you can grab the Hammer.
- Go to a cell and smash the toilet with the Hammer. The Crude Knife can not break toilets anymore.
- Once you hold the Hammer, Guards can attack you. Everyone nearby can hear the toilet breaking too.
- Squeeze through the sewers, then climb out past the wall.
After you get out
Once you see the escape message, you can reset your character. You will appear at the warehouse, the Criminal base, so you do not have to walk there. You lose the items you were carrying.
Do not reset too early. If the message has not shown up yet, you go right back to the prison. At the warehouse you can pick up an AK-47 and a Remington 870 shotgun.
