Last Updated: August 2026 | Shop, badge and player numbers checked against the live game.
Pixel Quest is a flat, top down world where the fighting is all about getting out of the way. Enemies fill the screen with slow moving shots and you weave between them while firing back at whatever is throwing them. You find loot, level up, clear dungeons with friends and pick an upgrade after every fight. Then something gets through, and the character you built is finished. It opened at the end of March 2025 and has passed 24 million visits.
This page covers how the death loop works and what Valor Tokens are for. It also covers the 13 things the shop sells, what the single badge can and cannot tell you, and how busy the game is now compared to its best day.

How to Play Pixel Quest
- Finish the opening tutorial. It teaches you to move and shoot, and a few things stay locked until you have done it.
- Learn to dodge before you learn to fight. Shots here travel slowly and there are lots of them, so moving well keeps you alive far longer than hitting hard does.
- Shoot and move at the same time. You aim where your mouse is, so you can back away from something while still firing at it.
- Pick up everything. Loot is how you get stronger inside a run, and there is no cost to grabbing it.
- Choose your upgrade on purpose after each fight. Two that work together beat one that sounds strong on its own.
- Take dungeons with other people. Servers hold 55 and a group makes the harder rooms much fairer.
- Expect to go down. When you do, you keep Valor Tokens and start a new character with them.
Pixel Quest Gameplay: Dodging, Loot and Valor Tokens
The fighting is the part people mean when they talk about this game. A room fills up with slow moving shots from several directions at once, and your job is to read the pattern and walk through the gaps. Firing back is the easy half.
Everything else is built around losing. A run is one character, and that character keeps what it finds until something lands on it. There is no saving your way out of a bad room.
Valor Tokens are what makes that bearable. You earn them when you go down, not when you win, and they carry across to the next character. So the worse a run goes, the sooner you are spending again.
There is also a harder setting where a death is permanent. It is optional, and for a month in the middle of 2026 the game put the words Non-Permadeath in its own title to make sure people knew the softer version existed.
The One Badge, and What Nobody Can Tell You
Most games this size hand out a badge for clearing a dungeon or reaching an area, and you can work out from those how many people ever got that far. Pixel Quest has one badge in total, and it is for joining.
It is called New Beginnings and it has gone out more than 2.9 million times. We say more than, because the badge was only made in May 2026 and the game opened in March 2025. Everybody who played during the first thirteen months never got one, so the real number of people who have tried this game is higher and nobody can say by how much.
That leaves a gap worth knowing about. There is no badge for a first dungeon, no badge for a biome, no badge for surviving a permanent run. So there is no public way to tell how hard this game actually is, or what share of players ever finish anything in it.
About 61,000 people pick that join badge up on a normal day, which is the one thing it does tell you. People are still arriving in real numbers.

What You Can Buy
Nineteen things have been put on sale in this game. Thirteen are still buyable and together they come to 29,200 Robux, which is a lot for a game that calls itself an alpha.

The five Donator skins are the ones to read carefully. Every one of them carries the same note from the developer saying the skins are available for 60 days, and gives the date they end as the twentieth of February 2026.
That date passed six months ago. All five are still on sale today, and none of them has been edited since the day it was made. Both of those things are true at once, and it is worth knowing before you treat a countdown in a shop as a real one.
Six more have been switched off. Five were an earlier round of supporter packs from September 2025 that promised a skin, a title and a badge when the game came out properly. The sixth is a leftover named DO NOT BUY, which was never for sale to anybody.
None of the eight packs with names like Explorer, Dungeoneer or Extreme Expedition says what is inside it. That is unusual, and it means nobody can tell you whether one is worth the money.
How the Game Has Changed
This game keeps rewriting its own title, and each label it wore is a note about what was happening that month.
| When |
What the title said |
What it tells you |
| October 2025 |
Alpha Release |
The point the game called itself open to everybody |
| December 2025 |
Krampus, then Nutcracker |
Two separate Christmas events, one after the other. Both left codes behind |
| New Year 2026 |
2X EXP |
A double experience weekend, advertised in the title itself |
| January to March 2026 |
Alpha, with RPG added |
The stretch that ended in the busiest day the game has ever had |
| May to June 2026 |
Non-Permadeath |
A month where the title advertised the softer mode, which is how you can date it |
The developer promises updates every weekend, and the codes tell you how that has really gone. Three of the retired ones are called One More Delay, Delay Quest and On Time Quest.
How Busy It Is Now
The busiest this game has ever been was the first of March 2026, when 8,448 people were in it at the same time. On a normal day now it runs somewhere between one and two thousand.
So it is at roughly a sixth of its best day, which sounds worse than it is. It is still being updated, still picking up tens of thousands of new players a day, and about 87 in every 100 votes on it are likes. That rating is high for a game that kills you this often.
The average visit lasts just under eight minutes. That fits a game built out of short runs that end in a loss rather than long sessions.
Codes and Scripts
There are two working codes and they go in the chat box rather than a menu, which catches people out. Our Pixel Quest codes page has both, along with the 54 that have finished.
Scripts are a thinner story. Our Pixel Quest script page has the one that loads and explains what the rest of them really are.
Who Makes Pixel Quest
It is made by a group called Pixel Quest, run by an account called coffv. Both the group and the owner carry the checkmark Roblox gives out, which not many small studios have.
The group has one game in it and about 53,000 members. That is small next to the 343,000 people who have saved the game as a favorite, which tells you the group is not the point here. Plenty of games hand out rewards for joining theirs. This one does not.
The group describes the game in four words: 2D, MMORPG, bullet hell, roguelite. That is a fair summary of everything above.
Tips for New Pixel Quest Players
- Treat going down as part of the plan. Valor Tokens only come from losing, so a bad run is still a paid run.
- Do the tutorial properly. Codes will not work for you until it is finished.
- Keep moving during a fight. Standing still to line up a shot is what kills most new players.
- Read what an upgrade actually does before you take it. The strong sounding ones are not always the ones that finish a room.
- Grab the two working codes early. Chests and a booster are worth more at the start than they will be later.
- Leave the permanent death mode alone until you can clear a dungeon comfortably.
- Check the wardrobe after a code. Skins go in there rather than appearing on you straight away.
Pixel Quest FAQ
How many badges does Pixel Quest have?
One. It is called New Beginnings and you get it for joining. There is nothing to earn for clearing a dungeon or reaching a new area.
What are Valor Tokens for?
Cosmetics and upgrades for your next character. You earn them when you go down rather than when you win, so they are the reward for a run ending.
Do I lose everything when I die?
You lose that character and what it was carrying. You keep your Valor Tokens, and those carry into the next one.
Is there a permanent death mode?
Yes, and it is optional. The game spent a month in 2026 with Non-Permadeath in its title to make sure people knew the softer version was there.
How much does everything in the shop cost?
29,200 Robux for the 13 items on sale. The most expensive single thing is a skin at 8,000 Robux.
Are the supporter skins really limited?
Their description says they were available for 60 days and gives a date in February 2026. That date has passed and all five are still on sale.
Are there codes?
Two work at the moment. They are typed into the chat box and both start with a slash, which is the part people leave off.
How many people play it now?
Usually between one and two thousand at once. Its record was 8,448 on the first of March 2026.
Is it finished?
No. The people making it still call it an alpha and it was last updated on the twenty third of August 2026.
