Shrek is in the Backrooms. That sentence alone should tell you everything you need to know. Shrek In The Backrooms is a horror survival game on Roblox where the big green ogre himself is hunting you through the endless yellow hallways of the Backrooms. It’s goofy, it’s creepy, and somehow it actually works.
What You’re Actually Doing In This Game
You spawn into the Backrooms, that liminal space nightmare of fluorescent lights and damp carpet, and your job is simple. Survive. Don’t get caught by Shrek. That’s it.
Shrek roams the levels and will chase you down if he spots you. You need to explore, find items, and figure out how to escape each level. The tension comes from not knowing where he is. You’ll be walking through a corridor and then hear that distant stomping and suddenly you’re sprinting with no idea where to go.
There are multiple levels to get through, and each one changes up the layout and the difficulty. Some areas are tighter and harder to navigate, which makes avoiding Shrek a lot more stressful. It’s not the deepest game, but the core loop of hide, explore, escape is genuinely fun in short bursts.
The Good, The Frustrating, and Where It Stands Now
The best thing about this game is the atmosphere. The Backrooms setting already feels unsettling, and slapping Shrek into it as the monster is both hilarious and weirdly effective. When he’s close, there’s real panic. Playing with friends makes it even better because someone always screams.
The frustrating part is that it can feel repetitive pretty quickly. The levels don’t change much between runs, and once you learn the layouts, a lot of the fear goes away. It can also feel a bit unpolished in places, with some clunky mechanics that remind you this is still a smaller Roblox title.
The game still gets players and hasn’t totally died off, which is saying something given how many Roblox games fade out fast. It’s not popping off like it did at launch, but there’s still a community around it. If you’re into horror games or just want something chaotic to play with friends for an hour, it delivers.
