Math Obby is an obstacle course where the obstacle is a sum. A board shows you something like 13 plus 5, three platforms ahead of you show three different numbers, and only one of them holds your weight. There are sixty levels of it.
It opened in December 2018 and has been visited 33 million times since. This page has the badge counts, which lay out exactly where players give up, the strangest shop we have written about, and the badge nobody has ever earned.

How to Play Math Obby
There are no controls to learn beyond walking and jumping. The difficulty is entirely in the sums.
- Read the board before you look down. It shows a sum, and the answer is one of the numbers on the platforms ahead.
- Work the sum out in your head first. Looking at the three choices before you have an answer is what makes people guess.
- Jump on the platform with the right number. The other two drop you into the lava.
- Keep going through the four operations. They arrive in the order you learn them at school, so it gets harder as you climb.
- Finish the equations at the end. Sixty levels in total, and that is the last of them.
- Go back for the two challenge courses. One is easier than it sounds and the other is the hardest thing in the game.
Ten people share a server but everybody runs their own course, so nobody can get in your way or take anything from you.

Addition holds on to two thirds of everyone who walks in. Every operation after it loses roughly another quarter of whoever managed the one before.
By the time you reach division, about a third of the people who started are still there. Then the first challenge course barely costs anything at all, and the second one takes almost everybody out.
One caveat on all of these numbers. The badges were added about nine weeks after the game opened, so they cover nearly the whole of its life, but not the first few weeks of it.
The Badge Nobody Has Ever Earned
There is a badge in this game called Infinity. Its description is three question marks and nothing else.
It was added in July 2022. Four years on it sits on zero holders, out of the eighteen million people who have opened this game.
The detail that makes it interesting is that it is switched on. When a game turns a badge off, it usually means the thing it marked was taken out. This one is live, so whatever earns it is still in there somewhere.
Nobody has found it. If you like a puzzle with no instructions at all, that is the one worth chasing.
The Shop Is a Tip Jar, and Its Numbers Do Not Add Up
Twenty items are on sale and not one of them does anything in the game. They are ways to hand money to the person who made it, and the names are simply the prices.

The cheapest is ten thousand, which is far more than most players will ever have. One is called hi and costs 69,420, which is a joke number people online have used for years.
Look at the numbered run though. There are ten of them, and the first nine cost 100,001 up to 100,009, one after another. The tenth should cost 100,010.
It costs 10,000,001 instead. A hundred times the price, in a game about doing arithmetic correctly.
One Person, and Twenty-Five Games
This was not made by a studio. It was made by one person, who has a verified badge on their account and twenty-five games listed under it.
Math Obby has 33 million visits. Their next biggest has 154,000, and after that the numbers fall away to a few thousand and then to a handful.
Some of the others are barely games at all, with names like Toothpick and The Best Game Ever. One of them has been visited a single time.
So almost everything this developer has ever been played for is this one obby, built in 2018 and still being updated nearly eight years later.
Tips for New Math Obby Players
- Answer before you look at the platforms. Reading the three numbers first is what turns this into guessing.
- Expect multiplication to be the wall. The badge counts show it is where a big share of players stop.
- Watch the person ahead of you. Ten of you share the course, and a wrong jump is quicker to see than to work out.
- Do not skip the first challenge course. Nearly everyone who reaches it finishes it, so it is not the wall its name suggests.
- Do not buy anything. Nothing in the shop is usable in the game, and the cheapest item costs ten thousand.
- Join the group if you like the game. The developer says perks are coming for members, and it is free.
