You start out with a basic rod at the starter island and immediately get thrown into casting. The mechanic is pretty easy, just tap to cast and wait for a bite, then tap again at the right moment to reel it in. Get the timing wrong and the fish escapes. Get it right and you stack coins fast.
As you earn more coins, you unlock better rods, new bait types, and eventually access to different fishing zones. There are multiple islands and locations to explore, each with rarer fish species and higher payouts. Places like the Volcano Island or the Arctic zone feel like actual rewards for grinding, not just copy-paste maps.
There are also pets in the game that boost your coin earnings or help you catch fish faster. Some are earned through gameplay and others show up in limited events. If you play during an event, the limited pets are genuinely worth chasing since they make the grind way more bearable.
