Feather Family

Last Updated: July 2026  |  Bird prices and player numbers checked against the live game.

Feather Family is a bird roleplay game on Roblox made by The Feather Family. You start as an egg, hatch into a baby bird, and grow into an adult. Along the way you color every part of yourself, build a nest, and join a flock with other players. There is no fighting and nothing to beat. It is a game about being a bird and hanging out.

It has been running since January 2018 and has passed 1.4 billion visits, with over 100 birds to play as. This page covers what every bird costs, how long each one really takes to earn, all ten areas, and how growing up works. The prices come from the game itself, and the times are worked out from the real rate Feathers come in at.

How to Play Feather Family

The game drops you straight in with a menu of birds. Here is the short version of your first few minutes.

  1. Pick a bird from the list. Fifteen are free right away, so start with one of those.
  2. Choose a life stage. You can start as an egg, a baby, or go straight to an adult.
  3. Color your bird in the creator. Eyes, beak, head, chest, wings and tail all get their own color.
  4. Learn the basics. Shift makes you run, and every bird has its own set of actions to try.
  5. Fly out and pick an area. The forest is the busiest one and a good place to meet people.
  6. Build a nest once you are an adult. Press Build Nest and pick from six styles, all free.
  7. Join a flock, or start one. Flocks get their own chat and a shared base you can teleport to.

Feathers start collecting the moment you join, so your next bird is already on the way while you do all of this.

Every Bird Price and How Long It Takes

Here is the thing nobody else puts together. Feathers land in your bag on a timer at roughly 200 an hour, and every bird has a set price. Divide one by the other and you get the real answer to the only question that matters: how long until I can be that bird? Here is the whole ladder.

Price Birds at that price Real time to earn it
Free Sparrow, Robin, Cardinal, Finch, Starling, Pigeon, Duck, Goose, Swan, Chicken No wait at all, 15 birds are yours from the start
5 Wren, Blackbird About 2 minutes
10 Chickadee, Jay, Swift, Swallow, Rail, Guineafowl About 3 minutes
25 Parakeet, Raven, Gull, Sunbird, Plover, Sandpiper About 8 minutes
50 Peafowl, Hummingbird, Woodpecker, Magpie, Grebe About 15 minutes
100 Macaw, Cockatoo, Auk, Cuckoo, Turaco About 30 minutes
150 Crane, Penguin, Hoopoe, Grouse, Loon About 45 minutes
200 Kiwi, Heron, Cormorant, Rhea, Lyrebird About 1 hour
250 Toucan, Pelican, Kingfisher, Quetzal, Gannet About 1 hour 15 minutes
300 Flamingo, Emu, Hornbill, Ibis, Bird of Paradise About 1 hour 30 minutes
350 Ostrich, Shoebill, Nightjar, Bustard, Hoatzin About 1 hour 45 minutes
400 Owl, Falcon, Stork, Secretary, Seriema About 2 hours
450 Cassowary, Vulture, Osprey, Kite About 2 hours 15 minutes
500 Eagle, Hawk, Albatross, Caracara, Petrel About 2 hours 30 minutes
1,000 Dodo About 5 hours
1,200 Archaeopteryx, Great Auk About 6 hours
1,500 Elephant Bird, Hesperornis About 7 hours 30 minutes
1,800 Kelenken, Pelagornis About 9 hours
2,000 Argentavis About 10 hours
3,000 Dromaeosaur About 15 hours
4,000 Skeleton About 20 hours
5,000 Robot About 25 hours, the longest save in the game

Look at how short most of it is. Over half the birds in the game are under 500 Feathers, which is two and a half hours or less. A macaw is half an hour. A penguin is 45 minutes. People treat this game like a huge grind, and mostly it is not.

The long saves are all at the top, and they are the giant extinct birds plus two joke ones. The Skeleton is 4,000 and the Robot is 5,000, which is about 25 hours of play. Your bag also caps at 10,000 Feathers, so there is no point sitting on a full bag. Spend some and let the timer keep working.

All Ten Areas

The map is split into areas, and each one suits different birds. Roleplayers pick an area to match their species, so a penguin heads for the ice and a toucan heads for the jungle. Here is what is out there.

Area What it is like
Forest The main woodland, and where most players hang out
Beach Sand and shallow water, good for gulls and pelicans
Desert Dry and open, with almost nowhere to hide
Jungle Thick trees and bright birds like toucans and macaws
Ice Mountain The cold one, where penguins and puffins belong
Volcano Hot rock and lava, and the phoenix looks right at home
Village A built-up area with houses, made by people not nature
Sanctuary Rebuilt in the latest update with new enclosures and more space
Skylands Floating islands up in the air, a fantasy area
Fantasy Field The other fantasy spot, for the legendary birds

The Sanctuary was rebuilt in the newest update with bigger enclosures and more space. Swimming also got a big improvement in the same update, which matters for the diving birds like penguins, loons and grebes.

Feather Family Gameplay Explained

Growing up is the loop here, and it works in three parts. Hatch turns an egg into a baby bird of whatever species you own. Grow turns that baby into an adult. Only one bird can go backwards. The Phoenix has a Rebirth move that burns it back down into an egg, so you can start the whole thing again.

Birds are not just skins either. Each one has its own actions and some have special abilities. Divers like the penguin and the grebe can swim deep without floating up, and they are the fastest swimmers in the game. The owl and the peryton fly silently. Flightless birds like the ostrich and the emu trade the sky for speed on the ground.

The social side is the other half. Any adult can build a nest for free, in six styles. Flocks let a group organize properly, with a leader, a member list, a private chat channel and a base everyone can teleport to. That is what turns a bunch of birds into an actual roleplay.

What Is a Roleplay Game?

If the term is new, it just means everyone agrees to act something out together. There is no score and nobody wins. You pick a part and play it as if it were real, and the fun comes from the story you all make up between you.

Feather Family gives that a lot to work with. Your bird has a species, a life stage, a nest and a flock. That is a whole life to act out, not just a costume. That is why players stay in one server for hours doing nothing that a normal game would call progress.

Gamepasses and What Robux Buys

There are five gamepasses. Being straight about it: four of them are birds you cannot get with Feathers no matter how long you play. Here is what each one actually gives you.

Gamepass What it gives you
Very Important Bird Extra textures, markings and effects in the bird creator, coloring for your nest and flock base, music through custom audio IDs, and the ability to host roleplay servers
Phoenix The fire bird. It is the only one that can turn back into an egg and start over
Griffin The lion and eagle mix. It is the only playable with an extra growing-up stage
Basilisk Unlocks the Cockatrice, from egg to hatchling to adult
Peryton The deer and owl mix, and one of the two birds that fly without a sound

So the legendary birds are the paid part, and Very Important Bird is the one that changes how much you can customize. Everything else, all 87 unlockable birds plus the 15 free ones, comes from playing. There are no codes and no shortcuts, just the Feather timer.

Tips for New Feather Family Players

  • Pick one bird to save for and ignore the cheap ones. Four 10 Feather birds is a macaw you did not buy.
  • Do not sit at the 10,000 cap. Once you are full, the timer stops doing anything for you.
  • Start as an egg at least once. Hatching and growing up is half the point of the game.
  • Check prices before you save. The team changes them when a bird gets remodeled.
  • Try a diver like the penguin or the grebe. Swimming underwater feels completely different.
  • Join a flock early. The private chat and the shared base make the roleplay much easier.
  • Ignore any script that promises free birds. Your bird list lives on the server, so it cannot work.

Feather Family FAQ

What do you do in Feather Family?

You play as a bird. Hatch from an egg, grow into an adult, color yourself any way you like, build a nest and join a flock. There is no fighting and no way to lose. You earn Feathers just by playing and spend them on new species.

How do you get Feathers fast in Feather Family?

There is no fast way, and that is the honest answer. Feathers come in on a timer at roughly 200 an hour whatever you are doing, so the only thing that helps is staying in the game. Save for one bird at a time instead of spending on cheap ones.

What is the most expensive bird in Feather Family?

The Robot at 5,000 Feathers, which works out to about 25 hours of play. The Skeleton is next at 4,000, then the Dromaeosaur at 3,000. After that it drops fast, and the giant extinct birds sit between 1,000 and 2,000.

Are there free birds in Feather Family?

Yes, 15 of them. Sparrow, Robin, Cardinal, Finch, Starling, Pigeon, Duck, Goose, Swan, Chicken, Turkey, Quail, Pheasant and Partridge are all free, plus the egg itself. They look great once you color them in.

Does Feather Family have codes?

No, and it never has. There is no code box anywhere in the game, so any list of working codes you find is made up. Feathers are the free route instead, and our codes page explains what each bird costs.

Is Feather Family pay to win?

There is nothing to win, but four birds are Robux only. The Phoenix, Griffin, Basilisk and Peryton cannot be bought with Feathers at any price. Every other bird in the game is free if you put the time in.
