You earn Yen by beating other players. You use it to unlock new characters. The more fights you win, the faster you get them.

The game has 20 characters, and its Roblox page says you use Yen to unlock new ones. Three of them are also sold as game passes for Robux, which you can see in the shop table below.

From August 12 to September 25, the game put out 6 new character drops, about one every week or two. The game’s own event posts said the newer ones unlock with Yen too.
Rooms for learning
Besides the main arena, the game has three other rooms: Beginner Servers, Easy Mode and Duels. If you’re new, try Beginner Servers or Easy Mode first. Duels keeps its own win streak.

The packs aren’t priced evenly. The 40,000 Yen pack gives about 24 Yen for each Robux, while the 400 Yen pack gives about 8. The top pack costs only 49 Robux more than the 24,000 Yen pack, but you get 16,000 more Yen.
The Starter Pack is even cheaper. It costs 39 Robux for 2,500 Yen plus some kill sounds, which works out to about 64 Yen for each Robux.

Three of the five passes are characters. The 2x Yen Boost doesn’t unlock anything by itself. It doubles the Yen you earn, so new characters come faster.
Other things for sale
Emotes start at 19 Robux. In Duels, you can pay 39 Robux to get a lost win streak back. Most items also have a gift version you can buy for a friend. Some gift prices are a little different.
When Do New Anime Ability Arena Codes Drop?
