This page lists all 31 ranks on the four teams that earn XP, the XP each one needs, and what it unlocks. It also shows how many arrests, fires or impounds the top rank takes. Everything here was checked on September 27, 2026.
Quick answer. ERLC has four teams with ranks. Police and Sheriff each have 9 ranks and top out at 20,000 XP. Fire and Rescue has 8 ranks up to 18,000 XP. The DOT has 5 ranks up to 4,750 XP. Civilians and criminals do not earn XP, so they have no ranks.
Police and Sheriff ranks
The Police (River City Police Department) and the Sheriff (Liberty County Sheriff’s Office) use the same ladder. Only three rank names are different. Cadet is called Recruit, Officer is called Deputy, and Commander is called Chief Deputy on the Sheriff team.

Every Police and Sheriff rank also adds a new weapon to your loadout.
You may see 13,000 XP listed for Sheriff Colonel. That is an older number, so plan on 13,500 XP to be safe.
The jumps get bigger as you climb. Your first five rank-ups, from Cadet to Captain, take 6,500 XP in total. The last one, from Colonel to Commander, takes 6,500 XP all by itself.
Fire and Rescue ranks
Fire and Rescue has 8 ranks. You start as a Volunteer with the Redline Fire Engine and all the basic gear.

The last step, from Captain to Battalion Chief, takes 6,000 XP. That is more XP than the whole DOT ladder.
DOT ranks
The DOT (Department of Transportation) has the shortest ladder. It has 5 ranks, and the top one needs only 4,750 XP.

How to earn XP on each team
You only earn XP for doing your own team’s job. Here is what each job pays.

Big fires pay the most, at 45 XP each. Fire calls come in on their own and can be slow, but each one pays a lot.

The DOT gets lots of calls and has the most ways to earn XP. Impounding a car pays the most, but only once you drop it off at the impound lot. Towing with the flatbed truck gives 10 XP, and the Falcon Advance 450 tow truck does not get that 10 XP.
How many jobs it takes to reach the top rank

The DOT top rank takes about 106 impounds. The Police top rank takes about 800 arrests, which is about 7.5 times more.
Most players mix in smaller jobs too, so your real count will be a bit higher. Your server matters too. Police need criminals to catch, and fire calls come in on their own.
Friend bonus and XP boosts
Playing with friends gives you extra XP. You get 5 percent more for each Roblox friend in your server, up to 4 friends for 20 percent. Your friends must have played ERLC before, and they cannot be AFK.
Here is the catch. XP is rounded down to a whole number. So one friend adds nothing to a 5, 10 or 15 XP job.

A 5 XP job only gets better with 4 friends. The bonus helps most on big jobs. An arrest goes from 25 to 30, and a big fire or an impound goes from 45 to 54.
Once in a while, the game runs a short XP boost event. A boost gives 1.5x or 2x XP. Boosts and the friend bonus work together, so an arrest can pay 60 XP. Some past codes gave XP boosts too, so check our ERLC codes for new ones.
Can you buy a rank?
No. Ranks cannot be bought with Robux. You have to earn the XP.
You can pay Robux to use a higher rank’s car or gear before you reach that rank. It does not change your rank. Ranks are counted from the bottom, so rank 2 is Officer and rank 9 is Commander. A rank car costs 60 Robux for rank 2 and goes up to 175 Robux for rank 9. Rank gear costs 30 to 88 Robux.
Air support works the same way. Sergeants and higher get a free air support call every 2 hours. Lower ranks can pay 30 Robux for one call.
A few game passes add extras on top of your rank. They are SWAT Team (750 Robux), Detective (300), FD Special Operations (400) and Emergency Vehicle Customization (400). The SWAT Truck still needs the Corporal rank, even with the pass.
Always ask a parent before you spend Robux. Every car and tool on this page can be earned for free with XP.
Tips to rank up faster
- Want to finish a whole ladder fast? Pick the DOT. Its top rank takes the fewest jobs.
- On Police or Sheriff, go for arrests. They pay 25 XP, while helping with someone else’s arrest pays only 5.
- Reach Sergeant early. The free air support call every 2 hours helps you find criminals.
- Play with 4 friends in your server. That gives you 20 percent more XP on big jobs.
- On Fire and Rescue, be ready for big fires. They pay 45 XP, more than twice a car fire.
- Lieutenant is a great goal at 4,000 XP. It unlocks the Bullhorn Determinator SFP Fury, a police car that tops 160 MPH.
Questions players ask
What is the highest rank in ERLC? Commander on the Police team and Chief Deputy on the Sheriff team, both at 20,000 XP. Fire and Rescue tops out at Battalion Chief (18,000 XP), and the DOT at Senior Technician (4,750 XP).
How much XP do you need for Colonel? 13,500 XP. You may see 13,000 for Sheriff Colonel in some places, but 13,500 is the safe goal.
What are the police ranks in order? Cadet, Officer, Corporal, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, Major, Colonel and Commander.
What are the fire ranks in order? Volunteer, Rookie, Firefighter, Paramedic, Engineer, Lieutenant, Captain and Battalion Chief.
Do civilians get XP in ERLC? No. Only the Police, Sheriff, Fire and Rescue, and DOT teams earn XP.
What is the fastest way to get XP in ERLC? Do your team’s biggest job over and over, with 4 friends in your server. That means arrests on Police or Sheriff, big fires on Fire and Rescue, and impounds on the DOT.
Can you buy ranks in ERLC? No. You can only pay Robux to use a higher rank’s car or gear early.
