Gardening is the Bloxburg skill you level by planting things and waiting. Take it to level 10 and it pays out $60,600 and 500 Blockbux along the way.
The bit that catches everyone out is when the XP actually lands. You do not get it for planting and you do not get it for digging the plant back up. It only counts once the plant is fully grown.
This page has all 71 plants with what they cost, what they sell for and how long they take, plus which ones quietly pay you a worse rate.
The quick answer
| What you want |
Do this |
Why |
| Level up fastest |
Plant the most expensive thing you can afford |
XP scales with the price of the plant |
| Never waste a plant |
Leave it until it is fully grown |
No XP is given for planting or for early digging |
| Best money per minute |

Any plant outside the 15 below |
Most sell for about 40 percent more than you paid |
| Start with nothing |
25 plants need no level at all |
The cheapest is Small Mushroom at $5 |
The short version. Plant the dearest thing you can afford, walk away, and come back when it is grown. Digging a plant up early gives you nothing, and that single rule is why most people level slowly.
How to level up gardening in Bloxburg
There are only three things that matter, and two of them are easy to get wrong.
1. XP lands when the plant finishes growing
Not when you plant it. Not when you sell it. The plant has to reach full size first. If you dig it up halfway you get nothing at all for the time it spent in the ground.
2. Dearer plants are worth more XP
The game scales the XP with what the plant costs, so one expensive plant beats several cheap ones. That is why players with money level far quicker than players starting out.
3. Plants wither if you leave them dry
A plant left long enough will wither, and a withered plant is wasted time. You can water by hand with a watering can, or put down a sprinkler and let it do the job while you are away. There are two sprinklers and both cost Blockbux.
The trap. Planting a big field of the cheapest plant feels productive and is the slowest way to level. One $500 plant is worth more XP than a hundred $5 ones, and it needs one trip instead of a hundred.

Two things stand out. The plant unlocks stop at level 8, so levels 9 and 10 hand over cash and nothing to grow. And level 4 is the big one, with 12 new plants in a single step.
Gardening pays like a job without being one. The $60,600 and 500 Blockbux you collect on the way to level 10 is the same payout every Bloxburg job gives for the same climb. Our Bloxburg Jobs guide explains that payout and why no job out-earns another.
The 15 plants that pay you less
This one is not written down anywhere in the game. Plants sell for a fixed markup over what you paid, and there are two different rates.
56 plants sell for about 40 percent more than they cost. That is the normal rate and it is what most people assume applies to everything.
15 plants only give you about 17 percent. Same waiting, same watering, less than half the return.

There is no way to spot them by looking. It is not about price, because the most expensive plant in the whole game sits in the good group at $600. It is not about level either, and only 6 of the 15 are plants you can harvest.
So treat this as a list to check rather than a rule to learn. If your plant is on it, you are earning roughly half of what you would elsewhere.
Best plants for money in Bloxburg
Money per minute matters more than money per plant, because a plant that takes three hours ties up your garden for three hours. These are the 31 plants with a recorded growing time, best rate first.

The Pear Tree tops it at $2.00 a minute. It is not the cheapest plant and it is not the dearest, which is the general pattern here.
The fastest grower of the lot is the Small Mushroom at 4 minutes, 30 seconds, and the slowest is the Large Organic Tree at about three hours.

These are the ones worth planting if you want the food itself rather than the money. What you can do with the crop afterwards is on our Bloxburg food guide.
Every plant costs half in the garden menu
Here is a saving most players never notice. Nearly every plant in the game is also sold as a decoration in Build Mode, and the two prices are not the same.
We lined up all 71 plants that appear in both places. The gardening price is exactly half the Build Mode price every single time. Not roughly half. Half, on all 71, with 63 of them an exact halving and the rest rounding up by a dollar.

What the numbers do not cover
Two honest gaps, because guessing would not help you.
40 of the 71 plants have no growing time recorded. They are real plants with real prices, and nobody has timed them yet. We have left those out of the money per minute table rather than inventing a figure.
Growing times and harvest prices may lag the game. The people who keep these numbers say so themselves at the top of their own list, and the prices change as the game updates. The costs are solid, since two separate listings agree on every one.
One more thing worth knowing: prices drop as you put more plants on a plot. The figures here are for a single plant, so a big farm earns a little less per plant than the table shows.
Bloxburg gardening FAQ
How do you level up gardening fast in Bloxburg?
Plant the most expensive thing you can afford and let it grow all the way. XP is based on the price of the plant and only lands when it is fully grown.
Do you get gardening XP for harvesting?
No. You get it when the plant reaches full size. Planting and harvesting give you nothing on their own.
What is the best plant for money?
The Pear Tree at $2.00 a minute, out of the 31 plants with a known growing time.
What is the max gardening level?
Level 10. You collect $60,600 and 500 Blockbux on the way, and the last new plant arrives at level 8.
Do I need a sprinkler?
Not to start, but plants wither if they go dry. A watering can does the job while you are there, and a sprinkler covers you while you are not.
Can I garden at level 0?
Yes. 25 of the 71 plants need no gardening level at all.
